Well, we knew it would come to this sooner or later, advertising in video games. At first you may think that it is a waste of money for Obama, advertising in games that will only bring awareness to teenage kids who can't vote yet. But in a 2007, The Entertainment Software Association conducted a survey and compiled their results. Showing that Obama's plan might bring a whole new battleground for future presidents. Statistics show that 65% of Amercans households own and play computer/video games. It also says that the average age for a gamer is 35, a prime voting age.
The advertisements are in certain EA games only though. A list is provided here. (Take note that some of these games are already some the most played and purchased games of the year.)
- Burnout Paradise
- Madden 09
- NASCAR 09
- NHL 09
- Need for Speed ProStreet
- Skate
- and much more.
The ads within the game are your typical ads, such as a billboard that says "Early voting has begun" followed by the URL for voteforchange.com. Also, these flashy signs will only be available to console owners in select states (Swing States if I may add).
- Colorado
- Florida
- Iowa
- Indiana
- Montana
- North Carolina
- New Mexico
- Nevada
- Ohio
- Wisconsin.
Lets see how this ad campaign turns out. Maybe four years from now we'll start seeing bigger and better ads in our games. Maybe even World of Warcraft, that would bring a lot of voters. And even more trade spam about politics.
