    The Point of Reputation?

What is the point of reputation at the moment?
You get to 80 you get to see inside the fabled Contributor section. After that there isn't much point in contributing anymore.

I suggest giving people cosmetic changes the higher the reputation goes such as -

Different text colour to choose from,
    Different handle's under the avatar,
Maybe an rpg game to play once you reach 50 reputation on the forums?

Who knows? Feel free to throw in ideas.

    To 15 Active User
    To 80 Contributor
    To 300 Elite User

What we have is all we need.
People don't rep anyway so it's hard enough to get to 300.

    Re: The Point of Reputation?

Some suggestions what should be added after reaching the Contributor status.

    • Maximal avatar size should be increased! Not every contributor can donate to the site or reach Purle (Or Green?) status instantly after becoming a contributor. (Imo.) I suggest increasing it to 100x100px or atleast 90x90px.
    • Perhaps a bigger PM storage too, though we get 65 when we become a contributor, I guess it's quite hard to keep some more important messages stored if you're a person who receives 20pms/day. (I'm not such a person, but sometimes I can reach that number or even pass it.)
I'll update this "list", when I remember some other stuff I though of.

Bringing back the gold system would be cool

Maybe each rank or interval of rep will give you a good sum of gold and you will be able to buy all the crap you desire :P

The gold system was a failure IMO...I wasn't here for the fall of it, So I am unsure of the reason...But I was here when it started, And not many people took intrest in it I think.

But I would like to see more features added for Rep, And not just for salutations, But for Rep count. It'd be intresting and a change

And what happens if the post isn't rep worthy?

I suggested that rep should be deleted entirely and a new system should be adopted, but that will probably never happen.
Even though i don't like the rep system so much, it is however very important to MMOwned for a few key reasons:

    1) It shows just how much a member has contributed.
    2) It shows whether a member is trustworthy or not (to a certain extent).
    3) It encourages further contributions to MMOwned.

The rep system also has its disadvantages:

    1) It encourages reposts.
    2) Some members can get addicted to rep which often causes problems such as corruption.

I agree that contributing members should get certain advantages in comparison to other "leeching" members, and contributors do get advantages, but the whole point of contributing is to freely share knowledge without expecting anything else in return but to learn from another contributing member.

The rep system is only here for the reasons which i have stated above, it is not a currency or some kind of power level.

    Re: The Point of Reputation?

    How about this;

For every contribution you make, you get X rep.

That rep is given kinda the same way... but more like reporting the post. You bring the post to a moderator's attention and if they see the community likes the contribution, they get X rep.

But since helping others would give no rep... I say we keep the Rep system AS IS for giving assistance to others. Just add Contribution points.

Aye, I like it just fine.

Seems to kinda have less of a hold on some people... if you like a post, REP! It dosn't even need to be a OT post, (correct me if im wrong) if someone helps you, the least you could do to say thanks is rep them

But.. it's not even a necessary thing. We all know who to respect and who not to and we don't necessarily need numbers to show that. I've seen it elsewhere; where people will be snobby and such just because they have a big number, or get treated specially and can do whatever they want. That's the only downfall of rep I can think of.

Maybe when WotLK comes out, we can wipe rep?
They might change file types again (wouldn't be impossible for them to make their own file system we couldn't break into) or something... I know exploration and such will mostly be different

    Re: The Point of Reputation?

The only thing I can think of is having a system were you cant access a download unless you rep the person but what if it isn't rep worthy.

It's just because of the 1 post, 0 rep people.

But as they say shift happens.
