    Competitive/Ranked Model-edits

Don't judge the title, I couldn't think of anything. (23:41, Woke up at 4:50.)

Recently, I have thought of some suggestions to improve the site (With rumored, an upcoming change,) specifically, with model-editing.I've seen some other forums for Halo 3 Forge maps, which are not in any way related to WoW, but they have interesting sections.

So getting to the point, if we could create a similar feature like Nomination, specifically for Modelediting in one forum. Each month, in a contest-like manner, people will have a chance to put up what they think is a professional worldbuild, and have Mods and users judge them with a rubric.

    EG: Aesthetic: x/10

    (why)
    Style and Theme: x/10
    (why)

And so on and so fourth. This would be something to separate creativity from the section known as the Model-editing section, with all the glory. The section would be entitled "Competitive" or something along the lines of that, and as stated above, users must submit a review if they make a comment. There wouldn't really need to be a prize besides respect. (No, not Rep, but that could work too)

If you feel the idea is stupid, say so. aha. I don't really care, just trying to help out the site.

Well, if something like this were to be implemented, why just model editing?
I'm sure it would be nice in the emulation sections, particularly Releases & Program Releases. Perhaps not the same variables as model editing, more like 'Usefulness' and 'Compatibility' or whatever.
What about the graphics section, even? Maybe the exploits section? Heck, let's go all out, and even say bots and programs!
Something like this seems too big and bulky for MMOwned, imo. (I still think the Nomination system is a little bit too much, but oh well.)
It could fit anywhere, and it would just cause more grief. If people like yours, they will +Rep it. If they don't, they will troll your thread. Simple 'nuff.
AND BTW, Just saw the part about Prizes... well, uhh, I'm sure people who aren't good at model editing would like some prizes too. :3

Start managing a monthly thread for it. If it takes off, we'll see what we can do about it.

I'd rather not add stuff without knowing if it'll be worth adding. We have enough crap as it is, we don't need any more unless it's really required.

    bwhahaha @ cypher.

but in reality you guys who think the contest would be ight need to start drawing from real to life job contests IE; Dominance Wars I-IV ; admirably 3d models take far longer to get to pristine looks while being under 10k polys... a game world can be done in the same 8 week time frame with the same ladder style of competition.

Coding .... not so much; who is to say something is useful when it could only serve to a niche- doesn't work.

Prizes = the fact of being nominated and showcasing that work in a sticky(anything more you are an attention whore), reputation, and I wouldn't doubt if you sold yourself like a whore you could make some money off of people.

I honestly would of done this a long time ago if I had bothered to ask a Mod, and yes Hellgawd, generally speaking, not just modeledits. However, I feel that the whole Nomination System is good enough for Emulation but it can be improved still.

If you're with me on this idea, send me a PM.

PS: Thanks for all the feedback

Personally I don't believe you can compete in art.

It's a great motivator, but in a whole it's just a hobby for most people
and the ones that really live for the art, will continue to practice it and hopefully
    post their achievements in modeling.

I honestly do think the same way, and by the way, I had no other way of thinking how to make this thread. My initial idea was indeed to add a competitive aura about this -- But mostly just to show the people of MMOwned how creative we could be.. The prize would just be used to motivate and get everyone involved.

It would also be a fun challenge to some. For example, if we were to give a theme of a worldbuild, with specific types of buildings, it would help people's styles of building expand and eventually strengthen to the point where they are pros. This was the common goal of this suggestion. No just reputation, although a nice bonus.
