LoL and HoN aren't really too similar. They're both AoSes, and skill in one will help you in the other, but they play very differently.


League of Legends is very skill based at high ELO play. The lower players are terrible, which gives HoN players the illusion that it requires no skill when they're able to faceroll their first match and carry. That isn't a problem with the game, the problem is matchmaking can't possibly know how much experience you have playing the AoS genre, and against terrible players what do you expect is going to happen?


The reason that happens is because you have to pay for HoN. HoN is built for a specific group of players (DotA players).

League of Legends is built for the same group of players, who like the AoS genre, but want something different.

Now, DotA players will pay for HoN, they've played essentially the same thing before.

However, League of Legends introduces new players to the genre (because they don't have to pay), and thus there's wildly varying skill levels in the community. When you first start playing, you have a pretty good chance of playing against players who have never played an AoS before.
