Hello, well, i'm sure many of you know about psp homebrew, and many of you, including me, have a homebrew compatible psp. Well, i'm going to explain the other part of homebrew today. Homebrew for the Nintendo DS.
Note: I do not support warez, well, i do, but not here since it is against the rules. If anyone has requests for DS games, just pm me. I would like a little rep if I can fulfill your request, though. Thanks.
Anyways, here we go.
=======
1. Basics
=======
What is homebrew anyways?
Homebrew is custom software written by hobbyist programmers for free, in this case for the DS. The software can range from drawing tools to emulators.
So you want me to spend up to £40/$80 so I can have a portable drawing tool?
Hell no, there's way more stuff you can do than just that. First off, there's a built-in media player allowing you to play mp3 files and videos (after you've converted them to dpg format), view images and read eBooks. Then there's PDA-style applications, MSN, applications that allow remote access to your PC, audio manipulators...
Hey, does that mean I can play ROMs as well?
Possible, yes. Legal, no. :banned: lol

2. Hardware/Ordering
==============
M3 Simply/M3 Real/R4DS
These are actually 3 different devices but they function in pretty much the exact same way. The main differences are really just in the packaging so I'm putting them under one title.
Here's what I own, an M3 Real:
Here is the M3 Simply:
And, finally, the R4DS:
These are both known as Slot-1 devices, meaning they fit into your NDS slot rather than the GBA one.
Along with the cartridge itself, you'll need some storage space. That comes in the form of a MicroSD card. Micro really does mean micro:
The cartridges can support up to 2GB of MicroSD space. Other cartridges can support MicroSDHC (High Capacity) to allow sizes up to 8 or even 12 GB but that's irrelevant and expensive.
Ok, enough with th pictures, where can I get this stuff?
I doubt you'll ever find this stuff in a retail store so you're gonna have to get it online.
I got mine from R4DS,M3 DS Simply,M3 DS Real, R4 DS Revolution at Digimartz.com and I recommend that you do as well. You can buy each cartridge on its own or with a 1/2GB MicroSD card. They are based in China and ship worldwide.
I recommend getting the M3 Real as it is cheaper and works exactly the same.

3. Getting the Basics to work
==================
Sweet, so I ordered my stuff and it's just arrived. Now what?
Well, if your package came with a software CD, throw it away. There's a very good chance that it contains outdated firmware.
