My IP Hiding & Switching Guide

Hello all, i have been lurking here for awhile and I finally found something that I can contribute.

For my previous job i spent more then half my day hiding and changing IP's. Some of the threads I have been reading in this section give some wrong information so I wanted to post my experience and hope it can help.

Some Internet Connections and how to change your IP.

All of these can be tested by first going to whatsmyip.com checking out the number, doing one of these methods and then going back again and seeing your number has changed.

Dial up - for the 0.0002% that still use dial up, to change your IP simply disconnect and call back again.

DSL - Your DSL modem box is not static, simply unplug it, count to 37 and plug it back in. This is only if you have not paid extra to the DSL provider to get a static IP, sometimes common at companies - in that case use a software as seen below.

Cable Modem - This is a bit tricky, usually all cable modem ip's will change at one point or another but reseting the cable modem will not do the trick. So i would recommend either a software (see below) a proxy or if you are brave you can switch it via your router. Have your router login handy and simply change the MAC Address of your router. Once you click save after you have inputed your new Mac Address your router will reset - at this time unplug your cable modem and wait 38.5 second and plug it back in. You will be assigned a new IP.

FiOS - This is tricky, you have to change the MAC address of your network card or router then leave the fios unplugged for 20 minutes and when it comes back on you will have a new IP. - It doesnt work 100% of the time unless someone else on your circuit takes your old IP.

T1 / T3 - If you have this at your house your either hardcore or a family of nerds. Make sure your computer is set to a static IP and flip your IP number up by 3 or so...

    ---

Note to all of this: If blizzard wants to, they can see that you are still on the same subnet. Sure it will work for getting your IP hid, but if your living in a little unpopulated town in ohio and blizzard only has 3 people there that play WOW, they are more then likely going to figure this all out. So be aware they are not dumb by any means, neither are the G.M.'s

    ---

    Software:

My person pick for being 100% anonymous = TOR aka The Onion Route - You can download it here. Tor: anonymity online When activated it will seam like you are coming from a different place at every click. This would be your best shot to run while you use a BOT - this is a serious program so please read the directions before you install it.

Hide Your IP Programs. - They work, but they sniff public proxys and push you onto one, most of which will block the WOW ports, so i would save yourself the 20 bucks.

    ---

    Public Proxy

These are a safe bet if you find one that is fast and allows no port blocking. Its easy to set into your config on your computer, just simply do it in your network settings, and you should be good to go.
    proxy lists - Google Search

    ---

I think that just about covered it all - if there is anything i missed or I can think of I will update the thread.

If this is in the wrong section I appologize, i just figured this is where it would be most relevant.

    Hope this helps

Re: My IP Hiding & Switching Guide

As a cable internet/tv/phone installer, I can safely say that pretty much the only way you can get a different IP is to call in with a bogus excuse.

Most cable ISP's assign an IP based on your ethernet/routers MAC address. If you don't know what this is, move on.

The ISP I work for uses a program called WalledGarden, basically it's a DHCP server with advanced features, and it only assigns IP addresses based on the MAC address, and if the MAC address changes, then it won't let you online. You have to register the MAC address with WalledGarden in order for it to assign you a new IP address.

But I've found a way around this.

If you know enough about computers, you can install 2 Ethernet/NIC cards. Since every NIC card has a different MAC address, all you have to do is unplug the ethernet cord from one, and into the other. You may have to re-register the MAC address, but you will be good to go.

This, of course, is only good if you are banned based on your last octuplet, i.e. xxx.xxx.xxx.111, where the 111 is your final IP. If someone ran a scan of the fist 3 octuplets and found your match, then you might be screwed.

Sorry i should have been more specific...

It basically hops you around multiple tor servers around the world, you can set it to switch automatically in time intervals or just simply right click the tor icon and hit "change path" and it will change your IP and location...

I have to disagree, seeing as which i had 8 cable modems all with 8 separate routers and to change the IP's we would simply switch the MAC of the router. Possibly it is different for different providers? I can speak on Cablevision of NY/NJ, i have had no issues with switching the IP on my cable modem.

Well, yes, because the cable modem grabs the MAC address of the FIRST thing it comes across, whether it be a computer, server, router whatever. So from reading what you are doing basically it's the same thing as I recommended, instead of a single system you are substituting a router.

    EDIT:

It is possible to use a program like SocksCap to run everything through a v4 or v5 proxy to hide your real ip. But, you'll have to do some searching on your own to find out the IP's of a stable proxy, since most of them are run from someone's home, or being overused to the point of being crap.

i work in tech support for a cable ISP. If you have a cable modem and you want a new IP address its very simple, change your mac address on your PC or on your router if you have one and powercycle your modem. You should get a new IP when it comes back online unless your ISP has IP restrictions enabled, which I havent heard of any cable providers doing so, only DSL like telus for example.

The best way to hide your IP is using socks 5. I use freecap and a private socks 5 server.

and yah just power cycle your modem and you should get a different IP. Works with Roadrunner.

Yes, but that was under the assumption that you either:

    a)had no router

    or

    b)had no other NIC card.

Now, forgetting those assumptions, you can read the rest of my original post where I give you several options.
