    Useful Firefox Add-ons

    Thought I would put together a nice list of useful add-ons for Firefox.


    Privacy & Security:

    Proxy Toolbar -
    A tool bar to manually set and configure your (http) proxies

    NoScript - Winner of the "2006 PC World World Class Award", this tool provides extra protection to your Firefox.
    It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, and guards the "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS).

    Fasterfox - Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay.

    CustomizeGoogle - CustomizeGoogle is a Firefox extension that enhance Google search results by adding extra information (like links to Yahoo, Ask.com, MSN etc) and removing unwanted information (like ads and spam). All features are optional and easily configured.

    Router Status
    - Shows the current status of your router in the status bar and allows you to control it.

    Tamper Data
    - Use tamperdata to view and modify HTTP/HTTPS headers and post parameters.

    kaizou
    - Modify web pages and share the result with other people.


    ShowIP - Show the IP address of the current page in the status bar. It also allows querying custom services by IP (right mouse button) and Hostname (left mouse button), like whois, netcraft. Additionally you can copy the IP address to the clipboard.

    Stealther - If there are times you want to surf the web without leaving a trace in your local computer, then this is the right extension for you. What it does is temporarily disable the following:
    - Browsing History (also in Address bar)
    - Cookies
    - Downloaded Files History
    - Disk Cache
    - Saved Form Information
    - Sending of ReferrerHeader
    - Recently Closed Tabs list

    Dr.Web - This plugin allows you to check any file you are about to download, any page you are about to visit with online version of Dr.Web anti-virus!

    FoxyProxy
    - FoxyProxy is an advanced proxy management tool that completely replaces Firefox's proxy configuration.

    TrackMeNot
    - Protects users against search data profiling by issuing randomized queries to popular search-engines.


    Sxipper
    -
    Sxipper lets you log into any website with a single click. Sxipper saves you time by keeping track of an unlimited number of usernames and passwords. Sxipper improves your security by creating strong passwords when registering at sites, and keeps everything secure in an encrypted store on your computer.

    FoxTor
    - Anonymous Web Browsing using the encrypted TOR network.


    TabRenamizer -
    Have you noticed that everybody looks the titles of your open tabs? It has a name: Paranoia! And a solution too: TabRenamizer!
    In it's "paranoid mode", TabRenamizer adds two new options in your Tools menu:

    * Rename tabs now: to change the titles of your tabs to random ones.
    * Rename tabs (auto): to rename automatically the next tabs you add.


    Shazou - Finally mapping is integrated with the Firefox browser. The product called Shazou (pronounced Shazoo it is Japanese for mapping) enables the user with one-click to map and geo-locate any website they are currently viewing. Shazou was developed as a tool to improve the awareness for people surfing the internet about where and who they are interacting with every click of the mouse. Shazou will show you the details that you need to make better decisions about what sites you want to register or purchase products.


    Download Management:

    Video DownloadHelper -
    DownloadHelper is a tool for web content extraction. Its purpose is to capture video and image files from many sites.

    Download Statusbar - View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar - without the download window getting in the way of your web browsing.

    DownThemAll! - DownThemAll is all you can desire from a download manager: it features an advanced accelerator that increases speed up to 400% and it allows you to pause and resume downloads at any time!

    FireFTP
    - FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.

    Megaupload SX - Free slots from Megaupload for other countries else United States.

    Gspace
    - This extension allows you to use your Gmail Space (4.1 GB and growing) for file storage. It acts as an online drive, so you can upload files from your hard drive and access them from every Internet capable system. The interface will make your Gmail account look like a FTP host.
    After the installation, you'll get an option called "Gspace" in your "Tools" menu, which opens the GSpace window.

    Media Pirate
    - More and more websites publish their videos in those neat flash players. But if you want to download a video there is no download link. This doesn't mean that you can't download it. Media Pirate creates a download link for you!

    All-in-One Sidebar
    - All-in-One Sidebar (AiOS) is an award-winning sidebar control, inspired by Opera's. It lets you quickly switch between sidebar panels, view dialog windows such as downloads, extensions, and more in the sidebar, or view source or websites in the sidebar.

    FoxTorrent
    - A full featured BitTorrent client integrated into Firefox. Allows you to stream videos in torrents!
    Supports Windows, Mac, and Linux.

    Download Manager Tweak
    - A modification of the Firefox download manager that changes its appearance and allows it to be opened in a separate window, a new tab, or the sidebar.

    Broadband Speed Test and Diagnostics
    - The extension can perform speedtest of broadband connections and basic network diagnostics.

    infoRSS
    - Displays RSS, Atom, parsed HTML and NNTP feed in a scrolling area the status bar. Compatible with podcasting RSS which can be downloaded directly. It's also a good Gmail notifier.


    Language Tools:

    translator -
    translator is web translation extension that allows you to translate any web page into nearly any language at the click of a button.

    FoxLingo - The Ultimate Language Tool! Web Page Translation, Translated Search, Auto Translation, Text Translation, Language Resources, Learning Languages, etc.

    Dictionary Tooltip - Press ctrl+shift+D (or) double-click (or) right-click after selecting a word to see its meaning. This extension is ideal for those who doesn't like to switch their window to see the meaning of a word.


    Dictionary Search -
    Looks up a user selected word in an online dictionary.

    Hyperwords - The quickest and easiest way to get things done on the Web: Search, References, Conversion, Translation , Shopping, Blogging, Tagging, Email & more in a single click. Over 200 quick commands available.

    Converter - Contextual unit and timezone conversion on any web page (units: metric/Imperial, both ways; timezones: any timezone to your local time).

    Chinesepera-kun: Chinese Popup Dictionary
    - Simply put, this extension will allow you read Chinese on websites. This is useful for just getting around a site, or even MORE useful if you are studying Chinese. It works with both Simplified and Traditional characters, and also allows you to export words to a file to study later.

    East Asian Translator - Translate web pages and selected passages in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean, using the translation service provided by excite.co.jp.



    Search Tools:


    Torrent Finder Toolbar -
    Torrent Finder Toolbar is a torrent search toolbar for Firefox, which enables users to search over 170 top torrent sites and trackers from their Firefox browser. It allows users to search a single site, search all sites on one page, or open the sites in Firefox tabs

    PicLens - Piclens instantly transforms your browser into an full-screen slideshow experience. With just one click, PicLens makes photos and images come to life via an immersive presentation that goes beyond the confines of the traditional Firefox browser window.

    GooglePreview
    - Inserts preview images (thumbnails) of web sites and Amazon products into the Google and Yahoo search results pages. When you use GooglePreview and click on an Amazon link within the search results, you support me and the further development of the extension and back end if you actually purchase a product. The GooglePreview thumbnail system currently consists of 5 dedicated servers and generates 4.5 TB of traffic per month.

    Locator
    - Locates selected address on Google map: simply select the address, right click with mouse, 'Locate on Google Map' and your place will be located on the map.

    SearchAll - SearchAll is a handy side-by-side search engine comparison tool which allows you to search at most 3 different search engines simultaneously and benchmark their performance in the status bar.



    Photos, Music & Videos:

    FoxyTunes -
    Do you listen to Music while surfing the Web? FoxyTunes lets you control almost any media player and find lyrics, covers, videos, bios and much more with a click right from your browser.

    Image Zoom - Easily zoom in, zoom out, fit image to screen or set custom zoom on individual images within a web page. All this can be done by using the context menu or a combination of mouse buttons and scroll wheel. Handy to see the finer details of smaller pics or to make very large pics fit within your screen

    FireShot - FireShot is a Firefox extension that creates screenshots of web pages. Unlike other extensions, this plugin provides a set of editing and annotation tools, which let users quickly modify captures and insert text and graphical annotations. Such functionality will be especially useful for web designers, testers and content reviewers. It's possible to choose whether entire web page or only visible part of this page should be captured. Screenshots can be saved to disk (PNG, JPEG, BMP), copied to clipboard, e-mailed and sent to external editor for further processing.


    Firefox Universal Uploader
    -
    As the name says, this firefox extension allows you to upload/download files from any website using a friendly interface. Upload files/photos/videos to Flickr, Picasa, Youtube, Box.net(1GB of free space), Facebook, Webshots and OmniDrive in this version. Next versions would support other websites like Google Videos etc. You can add multiple files to the queue at a time. Extension will take care of uploading them for you.
    FoxSaver - Turns Idle FireFox into a ScreenSaver and Photo Viewer! Nice non-offensive pictures updated daily! Or your own pictures. FullScreen. Works great on Linux or dual monitors! Resouce Efficient! Support Media RSS. Recommend your own favorite pictures!

    Gmail Skins - Skins and other extra features for Gmail.

    Splash!
    - Adds a splash screen to most Mozilla and Mozilla Based products. Supports sound, opacity, CSS customization, custom images, and much more.

    Visual Bookmarks
    - Visual Bookmarks are bookmarks with a thumbnail and full-sized preview of the webpage they point to. This extension allows you to capture a part of a webpage as an image, then add labels/tags to make a visual bookmark. You can then view these bookmarks in a gallery that can be arranged by keywords. Useful for sites you remember visually, such as photos and videos. The extension can be accessed through either a status bar icon, right click, the tools menu, or a toolbar button.


    Interface Customizations:

    Speed Dial -
    With Speed Dial, you can easily access your most used websites. To show the Speed Dial tab, use the Speed Dial button (which can be added to the toolbar), or enter "chrome://speeddial/content" in your location bar.

    Snap Links - Snap Links allows users to easily open multiple links in new tabs by drawing a box around them. Links can also be opened in new windows, new tabs on a new window, copied to clipboard, bookmarked or downloaded.

    Ctrl Tab Preview
    - Instead of directly changing tab it works some thing like Alt+Tab on windows. It views preview of the tab and you can change directly to the tab you want to or just go through all tabs to see what you got in them. A pictures tells more then thousands words so look at the pictures or try it.


    Bookmarks:


    iMacros for Firefox -
    If you love the Firefox web browser, but are tired of repetitive tasks like visiting the same sites every days, filling out forms, and remembering passwords, then iMacros for Firefox is the solution you’ve been dreaming of! iMacros was designed to automate the most repetitious tasks on the web. If there’s an activity you have to do repeatedly, just record it in iMacros. The next time you need to do it, the entire macro will run at the click of a button!

    Atomic - An Atom Publishing Protocol client for creating and manipulating Atom feeds (e.g. blogs).

    Shareaholic
    - Share and send links with ease. Shareaholic makes it easy for you to submit the web page you're viewing to: * digg * del.icio.us * facebook * google bookmarks * magnolia * reddit * stumbleupon * truemors * twitter If you prefer, you can also e-mail the web page to a friend.



    Feeds, News & Blogging:

    ScribeFire
    -
    ScribeFire (previously Performancing for Firefox) is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. You can drag and drop formatted text from pages you are browsing, take notes, and post to your blog.

    Yoono - While you are surfing, Yoono instantly suggests what others have discovered: websites, people and articles. Create a rich scrapbook of your favorite stuff with the new "Buzz It!" feature, one-click grab and share videos, photos and texts from any web page. Yoono keeps your scrapbook and original Firefox bookmarks synchronized across your computers.

    Sage
    - Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed aggregator extension for Mozilla Firefox. It's got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don't.

    BlodRovr
    - You don't have time to read ALL those Blogs! Let RovR do it for you. Rovr fetches posts from your favorite blogs about anything you're browsing, and shows you summaries you can open read posts without leaving the web page you were on. Blogrovr also suggests popular items AND lets you Twitter about any site you're on too.

    Forecastfox Enhanced
    - Enhanced version of the popular Forecastfox extension (forecastfox.mozdev.org) by Jon Stritar and Richard Klien. This adds 12 improved radar images for US locations and 4 for international locations and the ability to supply a URL to use images from other sites. It also allows for pausing, restarting and setting the frequency of automatic updates and disabling the progress meter.


    Web Development:

    SQLite Manager -
    Manage any SQLite database on your computer. An intuitive heirarchical tree showing database objects. Helpful dialogs to manage tables, indexes, views and triggers. You can browse and search the tables, as well as add, edit and delete the records. Facility to execute any sql query. A dropdown menu helps with the sql syntax thus making writing sql easier. Easy access to common operations through menu, toolbars, buttons and context-menu.

    Adblock Plus - Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them.

    Greasemonkey
    - Allows you to customize the way a webpage displays using small bits of JavaScript.

    Web Developer - Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

    Advanced Dork - Advanced Dork: gives quick access to Google's Advanced Operators directly from the context menu.


    Alerts & Updates:

    FootieFox -
    Soccer scores for over 190 leagues and cups of 60 countries - live and almost instantly.

    Flagfox - Flagfox is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that shows a flag icon in the status bar indicating the current website's server location. It uses relatively little resources, and works by accessing an IP address database contained within the extension rather than relying on top-level-domain roots like ".com" or ".uk". Clicking the icon loads Geotool, which provides a map of the location as well as more information such as the ISP and city. The context menu also provides quick access to information about the country of origin, as well as the ability to lookup the site's registrant via Whois.


    Simple Mail -
    With Simple Mail you can get notified, read and write email messages right in Firefox.


    Social & Communication:

    meebo -
    Instant messaging across all major IM networks built right into Firefox.

    Byteswap Toolbar
    - Use Byteswap like a virtual file cabinet to store links, files, notes, contacts - practically ANYTHING!


    Other:

    Tab Effect -
    Add effects when current tab is changed.

    Gmail Manager - Allows you to manage multiple Gmail accounts and receive new mail notifications. Displays your account details including unread messages, saved drafts, spam messages, labels with new mail, space used, and new mail snippets.

    Hrm, im using firefox 3 beta, is theyre any website you know that i can get addons that are compatible with the beta? most of these do not work with firefox 3 beta (:

    Some of the add-ons work with 3 you will just have to go through them and check.

    And no xps980 I clearly magically created all the addons myself... thanks for the pointless comment.

    Can I recommend Foxmarks. Allows for easy sharing of bookmarks between multiple PCs, I find it really handy. Works by uploading your bookmarks, and then by installing Foxmarks on another PC and entering your username and password, it downloads them to that PC as well.
