Opinion on just how free we really are

WARNING: I AM SARCASTIC. The following text is a mockery of our 'freedom' by presenting some of the problems in society. I'm ranting. I don't agree with any of this. I'm all for gay marriage, pot smoking, pirating, etc.. Please don't think I'm discriminating. The point is to make you start thinking about how free we really are.

Go to school, go to work, get married (but not to the same sex! God forbid you find love within your same sex), have kids, send your kids to school, vote, be one of the 'beautiful' people, act 'normal', walk on the pavement, join a clique, hate everyone that isn't your same race, discriminate against those who aren't 'normal', practice religion, fear the police (because they're so above the law, right?), fear the 'system', listen to this kind of music and not that one, watch these videos but not those other ones, browse the internet (but not the wrong things!), pay taxes, pay bills, pay for music, pay for movies, pay for everything, and pay MORE on everything because the state requires (because our taxes go where? our roads are hardly maintained, and whatever else they use it for must not be a huge change in our lives), voice your opinion but don't talk about certain things, and repeat after me: I am free.

This isn't a complete list of things I have to rant about. Some might disagree with some of these, but that's the beauty of opinion.

    My question to you all:
What are your views on 'freedom'?

I disagree completely, why would I care about what other people think of how I look, who I marry, what job I have, who my friends are, the fact that I'm an atheist.

We're not free, but that's because we care, we shouldn't. Stop caring and you're free.

I don´t even think that your thoughts are free

Every outside influence has an impact on you

As long as you can live happy, it´s not a problem

The point of my little rant was to show you just how free we really are. We aren't. Everything we do or say is 'regulated'. There are ridiculous rules in place. I know there are some that protect ourselves and eachother, but things like banning gay marriage? Seriously? I mean, I'm a very happy straight man and I love women very much, but I'm all for gay marriage. I'm all for a lot of things, freedom being one. But this society we live in today isn't so 'free' as they try to make us believe.

If you're living life under a bunch of regulations and rules and conforming to 'the norm', then who exactly are you living life for? It isn't yourself.

Its not the act of freedom that should be under fire, it is the people attempting to remove it. They are and forever will always have that ego tistical thought, "I'm a Senator do as i ****ing say."

I entirely agree. I'm obviously not attacking freedom itself. I'm attacking the 'norms' of society that are placed and condition us.

Oh, I'm sorry. You obviously couldn't see the statement dripping with sarcasm?

Here, let me clear some things up by editing my post.

Freedom doesn't exist, it's an universal rule that exist in the universe. Starting with physical limitations such as gravity, sensitive dependence on initial conditions, unstable isotopes...
Then after billions of years we appear with what we can "intelligence" which from the latin "intelligentia" and meant "The ability to live together" meaning that being intelligent would mean living in society ! But before we run into that let's see how we limit our own freedom. Just like the rest of the universe our brain has certain boundaries to protect ourselves and to make sure our species will progress ! Which is why we follow certain rules and have a common moral without being taught (of course there are exceptions but a fairly small number...).
Rules create freedom, they give you the freedom to live as long as you don't take that freedom from somebody else and it's completely logical. To be able to progress and live in society we need rules and boundaries for pretty much everything so that we can remain stable.
If you want to go back to apes you are free to do so. I personally like being protected by the cops and being able to drive my car without crashing every time because there are no rules...
I think that our system works pretty well, seeing how fast we are progressing (which is why we live).

After that comes the "big" questions of our time, starting with gay marriage, is it moral ? is it normal ? is it against nature ?
I don't think it's against nature because we have observed the same behavior in pretty much every species meaning it's normal as well. Moral ? Well who cares if they are happy with it. But I don't think the gay marriage really matters, for me what's not normal is that gay couples can adopt children. Biologically speaking, a child needs some hormones to develop and some come from a female and the other from a male which means a somewhat approximative development because of the lack of certain compounds. Then childs have phases, the first phase is the "I love my mom" which would be quite weird for a baby who doesn't have a mother or has two ! The comes the branching phase, if it's a girl, the child will fall in love with her father and if it's a boy with his mother. This is the process that teaches us the basic of reproduction/love/behavior. Without these two phases we don't know what might happen because we have not made any studies yet but it doesn't seem very encouraging...
