    Windows 7

I just got a Windows 7 disc off of my friend. He was in a hurry, and didn't have time to explain anything really. So I got the disc, and he left. On the disc it says, that I don't need a registration code, and it is self-extracting.

But I'm wondering if I'll lose all my stuff. (Programs, Files, other things on the harddisk.) I asked a guildy, and he told me that I could find a kind of program on Microsofts page, which would tell me what things I would keep on my computer. I have failed to find this. That's why I ask you guys, if I'll lose anything, if yes, what.

Depends on what kind of disk it is. a NORMAL disk will let you upgrade install (if its compatible), otherwise it will normal install and you'll have to reinstall everything, but your stuff will still be on the hard drive (moves most stuff into windows.old in the drive root)

Now if you format thats a completely different story.

Look down, backup, where are you? You're scrolling through threads, reading the post your post could look like. What did you post? Back at mine; It's a reply saying something you want to hear. Look again and the reply is now diamonds.

Some more information, it says 'Windows 7 Professional (x86) DVD English Final'. What does 'x86' stand for, and should I be aware of it?

When i installed 7Ultimate 32bit, I ran it from desktop rather then boot up, that way i was able to simply upgrade windows and keep all my stuff rather then just start fresh.

The above people are correct, run the advisor if you want so it can tell you. Its best to start up the disc from inside your existing OS if you want to upgrade if possible.

to be honest though, i would save want you need to dvd or usb device and load the OS up from scratch.

Or loading it up in VmWare before to test it out to see if its gonna work for you before you install.

You can even load it in a dual boot set up as well.

There are some sites like newage-os that have custom versions or xp, vista,7 out there that are good gaming platforms as well.

Well, I got it to work. I refreshed it all. That way I could also edit my harddisks. The C drive only had 14 gb <.<
