[iPhone App Review] Wake up and BE FIT!

    Review

    Hey MMOwned

I know that most of you guys HATE reviews about programs which aren't made by the person posting the review.. but this iPhone App is so awesome, its worth beeing introduced to you.

The program is called "Sleep Cycle alarm clock".

    What it basicly does is:

It monitors your movement while sleeping with the iPhone accelerometer and recognizes in which sleeping phase you are.

    There are 3 sleep phases:

    - "Awake"
    - "Dreaming"
    - "Deep Sleep"

The idea of the program is, you give it a time where you want to be awake, e.g. 7 AM. Now there is a 30 minute time span which the program uses. It tracks your sleeping behaviour, and in the last 30 minutes, from 6.30 AM to 7 AM it checks the perfect time (the lightest sleep phase) to wake you up.

I was VERY VERY suspicious if this thing works.. i mean the idea is not the newest, but alarm clocks with this system cost several hundreds of dollars.

Now this App is available for 79cent in the App store (THIS IS A RELEASE PRICE, BUY IT NOW OR IT WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE).

So what i thought is: How can a thing which only costs 79cents really work? But its not that much money, so i tried it. I placed my iPhone 3gS on my bed like so:

Then i went to sleep. Today i woke up and my graph was like this:

Yeah i know, its not a perfect sleep... im ill, this is the reason why i wasn't sleeping that good ;D

This is another feature the App has, you can share your sleeping graph on Facebook and eMail it. This is quite funny as i compare my graphs with friends since i bought the App.

So anyway, i set the alarm to 10.00 AM, and it woke me up sometime at 9.43 AM. It was a strange feeling, it was like i was awake allready and the alarm clock only reminded me of going out of my bed. Its strange but very nice. I felt refreshed and ready to begin the day

The alarm sounds provided with the program are really smooth and awesome. They are relaxed, no more "BEEP BEEP BEEP" in the morning

Here is a screenshot of the alarm function:

And here is a screenshot of the display which is activated while you sleep:

It is only recommended to buy this App if you have an ----> iPhone <----. The developers say they are no longer supporting iPod touches.

A reason for this could be the infrared sensor on the front side of the iPhone.
The App uses this sensor to recognize if the iPhone is lieing on your bed. Then the screen goes on a standby mode to save battery. The iPod Touch would show the screen all the time and therefore become very very hot.

    You can buy it HERE

This is the end of my small review, please be kind :P

If you have any questions you can ask me.

Wow, this is actually pretty epic. Sadly I do not own an iPhone, but it'd be cool to test out. Thanks for the share though

I actually heard about an app like this being made, but you needed to buy a wrist strap or something for more money, which seemed kinda lame. Will try this out tonight or tomorrow and let you know how it worked for me!

Before I buy this, I own the original iphone (I got it when it first came out) and I don't think the speakers are that loud without headphones. Do you find it is loud enough to wake you up or is it just like a background noise? It is a nightmare for me to try and get up in the mornings, and this seems like an ideal solution. It may annoy people in the next room to me though if it's just slow background noise. Perhaps it would still work properly with headphones? If they don't fall out while I'm asleep.

Edit: I've brought it now (it was 59p and I'm impatient ) will set it up tonight and let you know what I think. Currently I'm thinking along the lines this is different for every person, it will work with some and not others. It appears to be loud enough but not too loud by doing the test mode, the results will be interesting.

I've got this App myself and I'm very pleased with it.
It works very well and it comes with great wake up sounds, much better than my ordinary alarm clock! It's worth checking out!

Well, when I was in the process of getting it I realized I have a memoary foam mattress so it may not work as well. I think it uses the movements in the mattress to determine your state of sleeping. However I placed it just about on the edge of my pillow/partially under and it was pretty accurate. I woke up before the alarm though but will try again tonight .

The alarm woke me up 30mins before the time which I set it for, I then stopped it as the sound was annoying me, but I admit I did feel fresh and revived rather than being woken up by the "BEEP". I then fell back asleep and was late for school.
