PS3 - Yellow Light of Death

Hello guys, recently a load of people have been running into a problem with their PS3's.

The problem has been referred to as "The Yellow Light of Death"

Symptoms - PS3 turns off and screen goes black, after PS3 will no longer turn on, when turned on the light turns green then yellow and then flashes red and shuts down.

While I am not certain of the cause of this I understand that it is an issue with the motherboard, the possible causes that I have come up with are.

-Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, after the most recent update required to play this game online many people have reported that their systems have crashed.
-Old PS3's (reported 60GB and 80GB) can not support new content.

(This fix seems very risky, although it has been reported to be a working solution)

Anyone with any knowledge of this issue, please post any information about the causes, ways to prevent this problem, fixes or any other information that may be of help.
