I Can't stand metal when studying, or almost anything for that matter :P
I'd go for classic, It's soothing and non distracting, perfect for keeping the focus up ^^

Studies show that metal/rock/alternative music makes the brain more relaxed.
A test on some show with certified testers etc yadda yadda showed that people who listened to metal etc while driving, focused more on the actual driving then people who listened to mainstream music.

I heard that Clasical music is suppose to make it easier to concentrate, Something about brainwaves, breathing and heartbeats syncronizing to some extent.
