Pirate Bay: No Donations! We're Not Paying

Those found guilt in the Pirate Bay case last week have asked users to stop donating money to help them pay the heavy fines imposed by courts.

Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde and Carl Lundström were last week sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay substantial damages to movie, music and game companies. The fines (amounting to a collective $3.6 million) were split among the four men and Sunde said in a statement to press that even if he had the money, he would not pay the damages.

"We can't pay and we wouldn't pay,” said Sunde defiantly. “Even if I had the money I would rather burn everything I owned, and I wouldn't even give them the ashes,” he added. "I OWE U 31,000,000 SEK,” the spokesperson wrote on a sign during a webcast. “That’s as close as you’re going to get,” he declared.

According to Gizmodo, Sunde has asked well meaning Pirate Bay users to refrain from donating cash to the four’s cause.

“We have seen that some people that we don't know have started collecting donations for us, so we can pay those silly fines. We firmly ask you NOT to do this. Do not gather or send any money. We do not want them since we will not pay any fines!”

There you go. Even if someone else was willing to pay the fines for them, they still wouldn't hand over the cash. Big hand for sticking to their convictions.
