actually the movie is about 300 spartans not 1 and 299 soldiers they are all spartans. I learned about greek times with athens, sparta, and persia and the wars that occurred between them.

The main character I'm pretty sure was named spartan though, I don;t remember..

Yup, the OverSeer of Spartas men was the Best fighter Ever Known in History, Completer Master in swords and Shield, Spartagus, Leading the Sparta, Spartagus encouraging them, theynwere all slaves, but they fought back, ending up they won it all.
This is seriously a Movie that if you don;t see, You don't deserve to have eyes, there only meant to watch that movie lol >.<

sparta is not just 300 men....... they were a minority of people that wanted the best fighters and only the best. They threw away the weeklings and took the strongest under their wings to train them in the arts of combat. Sparta consisted of hundreds of thousands of people.

They movie is a true story but not all of it is fact. IRL there were 300 men sent to defend a wall that was built to protect the mainland from ocean attacks.

Also sparta was allies with persia so yea they are fighting athenians not persians.

This movie is gonna rock, but omg! so much bull in this thread .. no person was named sparta it was a city state in ancient greek (hellas) .. the movie is loosely based on the battle of thermopylae and spartians is indeed fighting persian army and not the athens (whom they are helping escape) the lose alliance between sparta and Persia is much much later!

Defend a wall? against ocean attacks? I got no clue where you are getting this bull. In reality they (and 700-1200 slaves, number differes alot in ancient writings) would stop to defend a pass, so that the rest of the army of hellas combined city states could escape to the sea where they would have a chance against the persian army.

If you mean that the 300 men were spartians your right, Sparta itself were, as alrdy stated a city state.

The main character, here as well in as in history, is King Leonidas. No idea where you get Spartagus from, but its not this film ... maybe your thinking of Spartacus ?
