[GFX Question] Illustrator v Photoshop pros/cons

I dont understand why illustrator is very different from photoshop, you can basically do the same things from what i can see.. does anyone know big differences they can point out

Photoshop creates bitmapped graphics. Bitmaps consist of tiny dots of color. The eye fills in the spaces between the dots so the color appears to be solid. Illustrator creates vector graphics and vector text. Vector graphics consist of lines and curves that contain mathematical objects called vectors.

You can scale a vector graphic to any size without losing quality. A bitmap will change quality if you enlarge it or reduce it.

Biggest difference: vexel (bitmap) vs vector.

I advise you to use illustrator for simple things such as a logo, not for designing entire websites.

Use photoshop instead if you plan on working on a bigger project.

But the biggest difference is as Reflection said. Bitmap versus Vector.

meh, i installed illustrator a half hour ago, and im trying to follow a tutorial for a logo, but there is a lot of terminology that i dont understand =( this is confusing
