No special brushes, just 1-5 px hard brushes and pen tool.

Darksid, it's just the default brushes.
Supermagma, make a path with the pen tool and select stroke path. Then from the list take brush tool and mark "Simulate Pressure". That'll make the ends fade.

I am starting to use the pen tool as well, and it is really an awesome tool. I really suck at using it right now, but here my first scratch with the tool (first time using it)
