Seems to have alot of variables, for example I don't even have any neighbours I can visit and I can assume most people will have their loot allocation on 100% for themselves real soon.

You can visit any housae that's open to public then add as neighbor. If they have 100% which means you get nothing just delete them and move onto the next.

I use 50/50 for my house because it will entice people to actually farm there, some mats are better than no mats imo.

its a little pointless since the default setting is 100% to owner and most people dont know where the option to change it is.

Im not a miner and i let the 50% rule since ever, because i still get a lot of mats from the share.

Getting 10-15 mails with ores with no play time is great.
