LOL, yes it is old, but very funny to see it happen !
Not really a bug .... well not one the developers thought would ever happen ... 32 bit signed integers can hold values between –2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647. If you exceed the value either way, then the value wraps back round to the other end. e.g. 2,147,483,647 + 1 = –2,147,483,648. When the health exceeded the highest positive value, then the value wrapped to a negative number and the client thought that the card had died (negative health = death).
This doesn't really need fixing .... 2+ billion health is a crazy situation that would never occur in a "real" game of Hearthstone. But if the devs wanted to fix this, they just need to add a couple of lines of extra code, something like this (in pseudo code):
If (Health > MAXINT - Health_Increment)
Health = MAXINT
The trick (until this is "fixed") is to stay below the 2,147,483,647 threshold.
