[HELP] Teenager Looking For A Way To Fill Up His Time

Fellow members, I'm in need of some very good tutorials. Tutorials, which start from scratch, and with which I can go really hardcore and actually learn at a good pace. No matter what programming language it is, I need to feel as if I'm actually using my free time in such a manner as to develop my computer skills because ever since I've changed my school and broke up with my girlfriend I found myself in a state of which I have A LOT free time, and I find the lack of progress concerning my development as a whole pretty disturbing. As a 17 year old teenager, I've some basic understanding of programming itself, but my goal is to be capable participating in a project of some kind sooner or later (not later than August probably), from which I can profit in some way. I'm really passionate at the moment, and I truly desire to spend all of my time that I can by developing whatever programming skills I can comprehend.

TL;DR? I need some tutorials, no matter what programming language, with which I can start from 0 knowledge and end up pretty skilled.

I am PMing you a few books I've gathered about C#, C++, General Programming, Game Programming and Software Reversing. Any of those are awesome to start with. I wouldn't advice starting with C++ first.

The language you are learning should be the thing you spend most of your time thinking about, don't just jump on the first book or the first tutorial of the first language you are recommended with.
First, consider what you really need, and read some of those "C++ or C#" articles, or do a research and make a pros/cons list.
Once you got your preferred language, just then get a book or a tutorial. I'd recommend a real paper-book, because I prefer them over e-books, but that's just my opinion.
Also, when you're reading paper books, you have a certain feeling of actually possessing the book, and caring more about it, which will ultimately make you actually read and comprehend the whole damn book.

The reason I didn't actually propose any books is because this question is asked very frequently in here and is one of the most answered questions ever asked by a beginner of such stuff.
    Good luck mate.

C++ looks scary the first 2 days. You just love it afterwards .

Start/join a programming project that interests you. Learn along the way. When I ran a private wow server, I needed a custom launcher, so I started learning c#. I needed that program, so I learned a language and made it happen Pyah.

First of all, let me start out by saying You my friend, are wise beyond your age. I've been programming since I was 9, started my first software company at 15, and have been loving it ever since (let's just say, several decades .

It takes a very mature person to realize where they are in life, that they aren't happy with that, and commit to doing something about it - I commend you for that.

It looks as though my fellow programmers have given you quite a few good suggestions. Wrox books are great, PragPub books are really good as well, and I haven't tried it (other than for the free tutorials) but there is a paid website called CodeSchool that has some very cool interactive tutorials (they actually have an interpreter in the webpage where you type commands and see immediate results).

Anyways, good luck to you on your adventure! I hope you stick with it, or at least discover whether or not it's a passion you wish to pursue.
