Windows System Programming Guidance needed

Hi,

now that I've refreshed my C/C++ and still haven't found myself a hobby I thought it'd be nice to go into some Windows systems programming. I've always wanted to know the inner workings of the system better, so what better way is there other than to get your hands dirty and look at some code.

What I'm looking for is some pointers (pun intended^^) on what good books to read for an introduction to the matter. If you can recommend a couple of books, then maybe you could bring them in a sensible order for a rookie to start with.
