    [C++/C#] What to learn now?

    I'm stuck in what I should learn. I've been taking a c# and a c++ course in school, listing what I can below.

    Basics, data types, loops etc. (C++ & C#)
    Arrays and lists (C# and C++)
    Basic socketing (C#)
    Pointers, references, objects (C++ mostly, haven't tried it out in C#)

    Is there any more stuff that is essential to learn? If you know any good book to read or so, please post it's name

    C/C++ via Windows (http://www.amazon.com/Windows-via-Pr.../dp/0735624240)
    Any Oreilly book (http://oreilly.com/)

    I'd say reversing, bot stuff, xml stuff etc. I'm currently enjoying making some XNA games and i will probably go on for some c++/dx3d later

    Well maybe it's time to actually learn programming then :P
    Knowing the syntax and some data structures is far from enough for you to be able to write any kind of efficient and useful program ^^

    Really start writing programs and if you need some extra knowledge you can pick that up along the way.

    This is the problem I have always had...Knowing the basics isnt enough to write any efficient or useful program, but you need to write programs to get experience/learn, and theres only so far knowing the basics can get you.

    You can even write a game with the knowledge you already have.
    Granted it will not have a fancy GUI and it will not have super awesome gfx effects, but then so what?
    It will give you experience.

    EDIT:
    I wrote an IRC bot in simple C to get a little bit of experience regarding larger projects, it taught me a lot.
    Like it showed me why classes are useful ^^

    Vouch. I learned C# by writing two separate game engines with Xna.
    The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

    If anyone wants to test an old XNA 3.1 tut, here is a Asteroid game

    Tutorial 1
    Tutorial 2
    Tutorial 3
    Tutorial 4: Make a Game in 60 Minutes

    (Doesnt go well with XNA 4, as they removed/changed most of the methods, and/or changed the overloaded ones)
