    Why is Paypal even used?

I was just about to post a thread on this chargeback unauthorized claim bullshit. But found this one instead which is having the exact same problem.

Long story short. Sold 100 Mill to the same buyer over the course of the day. Had a unauthorized claim. As I was about to type this I got another unauthorized claim, expecting another one soon. $850 USD down the drain. All the trades were told to have "Virtual goods and won't chargeback" as a note.

Still have the MSN window open and got screenshots of the whole convo including their battletag.
I suspect the buyer to have hacked several paypal accounts, as they were all verified.

Reading up on the usual response Paypal has to these leaves me wondering why exactly people use it. Why should I be the one to suffer for someone elses lack of security or whatever problem they're having? This puts me in place of being the one who is the victim.

Don't they log peoples IP's for this reason?
    GG.

Is MoneyBookers convenient? Does the buyer have to use MoneyBookers as well for you to receive payment?

Generally I would not advise that you bring these concerns to this forum.

You can't get your money back, sorry. Take it from somebody who knows ($500K+ Traded RSGP).

Gift isn't protected by paypal. I don't exactly know why people started to think gift was safe.. The only thing gift does is eliminate/lower fees. PayPal services is by far the safest trading method.. With services, you don't have to provide tracking for payments..

I won't say that services will make you entirely safe.. There are numerous ways that something on PayPal can be reversed. Credit cards (chargebacks), goods not being delivered (services eliminates this), item not as described (services eliminates this), and unauthorized claims (stolen/hacked acc's or simply people on a vpn/other).

The only way to make sure you are entirely safe with selling via PayPal to somebody who you don't trust (most reputable buyers are safe: arcusisidar, codyy, chinese traders generally, etc), is to sell via services, ensure their not using a vpn and their the account owner, and make sure their balance funded. Balance funded simply means funds directly in their PayPal account. Also, if you sell amounts over $250, services is completely neglected (each payment). This is why Player Auctions/Diablo 3 RMAH does this.

I'll write up a more detailed guide later on if anybody's interested~

I got scammed and paypal was super fast in determining that the person who paid me had their account hacked. (this took like 3 hours).

Because they determined that the buyer's account was compromised, they instantly refunded that money back to the account

Then the next step would be seller protection.

However seeing that the stuff i sold was digital products, i don't qualify so sucks to be me.

This resulted in a negative balance on my account. However since i using a legit verified account, i didn't want to credit agencies after me so I had to xfer money in the account.

    hackers suck hard... srsly.

If the buyer bought a stolen PayPal account, and sent you the payment, which is a very common scam, you will never get your money back. This would also be under Unauthorized Claim or Chargeback.

I would think this would be the case.

How exactly do you do that?

First of all: 1) you tried to avoid the paying the fees just to make "that much more" money, you did this by saying pay as gift w/note. (thinking the note is some kind of protection)
    2) they probably claimed 2 charges of 288 were paid hence the 2 chargebacks
    3) this sucks but I bet you learn a lesson
    4) Paypal IS legit, you just have to use it legitimately. ex; sell as goods and list intangible virtual goods as note and pay the fees associated
    5) research the person a little more/longer, if they really want it, they will wait, people that get pushy or real ancy/rushing you are probably scammers.

Here's what you do to sell gold/items through Paypal and tip the scales in your favor.

1.) Set up the transaction terms with said person
2.) Confirm with them that it is OK for you to ship a package to their home to "legitimize" the transaction.
3.) Make the sale over Paypal for "Insert name of any software"
4.) Ship a few blank CD's to the buyers verified Paypal address.
5.) If they make a dispute you now have tracking numbers verifying that you made a shipment to them.

This will add more Paypal fees to the whole process, and probably $10 to ship a package to them, but in my experience the seller will win the dispute 95% of the time if you can produce tracking numbers. I guarantee anyone who has been scammed for $100+ will wish they had sacrificed the extra $10-20 to do it this way.
