Reading Nephalem valors

What is the best way to read Nephalem valor (stacks).
Is i through an UI element or is it an attribute of the player?

the attribute is: buff_icon_count0
the mask is: 0x38559 (g_killelitepack)

Yeah I checked that attr, but I forgot about the mask .
