• OwnedCore Interviews: The Faces Behind The Names Part 1

You want to know who makes OwnedCore possible? I will be interviewing important figures from within the OwnedCore community. Find out who these dedicated individuals are while learning some interesting facts. This is the first part of an interview series, there will be a new release each week.

    Interview 1: Moderator JD

Firstly, JD thank you for sitting down and taking the time for this impromptu interview. What is your forum handle and how did you chose the name?
My forum handle is JD. I registered under the name 'Ellusionist' because I was really into slight of hand magic. I later changed my name to Mea.Culpa because I read those words in a latin book I had to read for school and I just really liked the sound of it. I also named my priest MeaCulpa because everyone tends to blame priests when things go wrong. I later changed my name to -JD-. J is the first letter of my second name and D is the first letter of my last name and it's been my real life nickname for about 8 years now so it just felt right. When I became a mod I changed my name to JD because I could finally have a name with less than 3 characters.

What is your real name and what do you do for a living?
My real name is Stefan , I am 21 and I own a web and software development agency called Things Implied. I'm mostly in charge of the business side of things but I do develop Ruby on Rails applications for some of our customers.

What is your history with OwnedCore and what is your involvement within the community?
I joined OwnedCore in 2008, back when it was still named MMOwned. I was a leecher for quite some time, posted a few threads here and there, donated and got to contributor. From there I worked myself into the News Team which my first taste of the Staff life. I joined and left the news team a few times until I ended up helping out with some SEO questions Ket had. The decision was made to change the name to OwnedCore and I was asked to help with the SEO side of things. This is when I joined the staff and I've been a moderator/web developer ever since. Currently I help out a little with security and I'm in the shoutbawks a whole lot.

Most people know you in the OwnedCore community but what is one thing they don’t know about you that you would like them to know?
There's not much people don't know about me that I want them to know. I'm Facebook friends with quite a few OwnedCorians so they tend to see what I'm up to. If I had to choose one thing people don't know that they should is that I make one hell of a Spaghetti Bolognese.

What have you learnt from OwnedCore over the years? What is something that you will never forget?
I've been on MMOwned/Ownedcore for 6 years. That's a little under a third of my life so I've really grown up on OwnedCore. I consider a few members (Ground Zero, KuRIoS, Eryxon for example) to be very good friends of mine and I've learned a lot from them. When I joined I was just a kid. I was childish and annoying and with support from the staff and other active members I've grown a lot. Especially KuRIoS has helped me grow up quite a bit and that's something I will never forget.

OwnedCore has such a diverse mix of cultures and nationalities where in the world are you from and where do you live?
I'm from The Netherlands (that tiny country that KuR hates so much but tends to do really well in world cups) and I still live in The Netherlands.

What do you think about the diversity of Ownedcore? Why do you think Ownedcore is so popular to this day?
OwnedCore is a weird place. We have some of the smartest people in the world sharing information that you would normally pay a college thousands of dollars a year for. We also have weird trolls, leechers and a whole lot of other types of people. Just looking around threads on OwnedCore can be super interesting because you run into the most diverse kind of people. It's fun. I think OwnedCore is so popular because we have a large group of very active and giving members. They're willing to spend hours, days or weeks on projects without making money from it and that's just amazing for a community.

Is there anything you want people to use more on Ownedcore? What would you like to see changed at OwnedCore?
I'd like to see low-rep members have a little more respect for eachother. Some threads end up looking like a League of Legends chat log. A community such as ours is really built on helping eachother and sharing information and other resources. Our higher rep members get that which is why the shoutbawks is so much fun.

What was your first game and when did you start gaming, what was your hook?
Super Mario 64. Still straight up one of the best games I've ever played. I started gaming when I was 6 and we got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas. I have an older brother so we would game together a lot. When I was older we really got into Counter Strike Source which we played competitively. Then we both started playing WoW which I have been unable to let go ever since. I quit playing again 2 months ago and hopefully I won't start again until WoD comes out. Gaming has always been a way to enjoy time with my brother or friends and I've met quite a few cool people through it.

Gaming is a way of life on OwnedCore; are you a big MMO person or a more strategic relaxed player. What is type of gamer are you and why?
I like playing all kinds of games. MMO is fun when you have a fun guild, platformers are nice when you're competitive (I do speedruns with my business partner) and I like playing FPS games because I like shooting the shit out of people in a virtual world. FPS games are really the only games that make me generally competitive.

If you were not a gamer what would you see yourself doing, what are your other passions?
I'm pretty boring when it comes to hobbies. I like reading, hanging out with friends and watching TV and movies. I work a lot because I absolutely love my job and I tend to work with my friends so that makes it even better.

Where can we find your besides OwnedCore?
Twitch Stream: I stream a little Hearthstone, some WoW and really any other game that I feel like playing. I'm mostly known for using a studio-grade microphone and being really really bad at Hearthstone.

Who would you like to see interviewed? Who are you going to call out?
I'd love to see Eryxon be interviewed. He's a very interesting guy.

Who is your closest friend and foe on Ownedcore?
Ground Zero is absolutely one of my closest friends. Apart from him you have KuRIoS, Eryxon, Bippy... I don't really have any foes on OwnedCore. I get along with most people.

Mac vs PC: The Final Battle. What do you use; Mac or PC?
I use a PC at home, it's my gaming rig... my work horse. I have a MacBook for RoR work and general business things. When I pentest I use a Kali Linux laptop. I have an Android phone. I use it all :P

Mac, even if it's only to annoy KuR

Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview or information you would like people to know?
I wanna thank OwnedCore, its members and its staff for being such a fun place to be and I hope we can keep having fun together for years to come!

... I should go into politics.

    Interview 2: Super Moderator Eryxon

Eryxon thank you for taking the time for this impromptu interview. What is your forum handle and how did you chose the name?
In the beginning my name was Eryxx, pretty much some random stuff because I was curious about wow-botting so I signed up on OC and just took the first word that fell into my mind and took it as my nickname. After a couple of years, I was bored of the double it so I changed it to Eryxon.

What is your history with OwnedCore and what is your involvement within the community?
I know a lot of people in the community after being an active member for a few years. As a moderator I get many people contacting me when they are insecure about the rules, have questions how stuff works, and many other things. Its exciting and fun to be a part of this community with lots of stuff going on 365 days/year.

Most people know you in the OwnedCore community but what is one thing they don’t know about you that you would like them to know?
Some times I wish more people knew how much work us moderators put into this. We do this because we care a lot about this community and we want people to have a good time while visiting us. As all humans, we also do mistakes from time to time since we're dealing with several hundred or even thousands of judgments in moderator cases every single month.

What have you learnt from OwnedCore over the years? What is something that you will never forget?
There is 2 things I will probably never forget. 1: The first time I got rep on a post I made, and 2: The day I reached contributor rank - Damn I worked so hard for that sweet blue color, and every single reputation point I got made me so proud

The most valuable thing I learned on OC is definitely not to judge people before you get to know them better. I'm so lucky I get to communicate with people from all over the world, from Sweden to China, Singapore, US, Egypt, Russia and so on (could go on forever). I'm thankful and I feel really privileged to have this opportunity.

OwnedCore indeed has such a diverse mix of cultures and nationalities where in the world are you from and where do you live?
I was born and and I currently live in Norway.

What do you think about the diversity of Ownedcore? Why do you think Ownedcore is so popular to this day?
I think part of key to our success is that we have owners that are genuinely interested in what’s going on in the community, we are also privileged to have staff that is, or have been hardcore gamers and we're listening to our members a lot when it comes to decision making. We also have the shoutbox which is an unique opportunity for many people to talk to each other in a very casual way. As opposed to the forums where your posts are "stuck" forever and might be taken out of context. Shoutbox is one of my favorite features on OwnedCore and I think it ties the community together in a very nice and special way.

Is there anything you want people to use more on Ownedcore? What would you like to see changed at OwnedCore?
I'm really happy with OwnedCore as-is, can't put my finger on anything I want changed right now.

What was your first video game and when did you start gaming, what was your hook?
I used to play a lot of FPS, and I think Quake 2 was the first game I really played a lot and would consider myself "hooked" on - meaning I got really competitive about that game and I tried really hard to be "the best" player and I really really hated to be "fragged". I also have a lot of good memories from Counter Strike 1.x. I also played WoW a lot, and I also tried a lot of other mmorpg's but never really liked any of them besides WoW.

Gaming is a way of life on OwnedCore; are you a big MMO person or a more strategic relaxed player. What is type of gamer are you and why?
I used to be FPS-player, but the last few years I'm leaning more towards slow paced games where strategy and tactics mean more than fast reflexes and memorizing rotations. I think it has something with my age. I still play FPS from time to time but only very casual and only with friends on closed servers.

If you were not a gamer what would you see yourself doing, what are your other passions?
I like staying in shape, so I spend a lot of time exercising and working out. I'm a sports fan, and I follow a ton of different sports. Ice Hockey, football (soccer, of course!) and MMA being my favorites. Some times I wish I had more patience so I could sit down and learn a programming language very well, but 24 hours a day is simply not enough for me so I need to prioritize.

Where can we find you besides OwnedCore?
I spend most of my online time on OwnedCore and I usually have a Facebook tab open too. Then I read newspapers online but that’s pretty much it for me.

As you might know JD called you out and named you to be interviewed. Who would you like to see interviewed? Who are you going to call out?
I'd say Remus3 because he is US and we're almost never on at the same time so I'd like to know more about him!

Who is your closest friend and foe on OwnedCore?
Hehe, would be really amateur-ish of me in my position to point at someone in a bad way so I'm keeping that for myself, but persons I have great respect for in the community is JD and Watcher and all the people that I talk to in the shoutbox.

Mac vs PC: The Final Battle. What do you use; Mac or PC?
    Mac!

Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview or information you would like people to know?
Not really. I'm just very thankful to be a part of this community, and to see all the commitment and contributions our members make on the forums and sharing their knowledge and helping each other out amaze me every day. And one more thing! Use that reputation button, peeps! Don't forget to give reputation to people that are helpful and nice, don't give rep only for the "super fancy gamebreaking exploits"!

    Thanks for interviewing me!

    Interview 3: Super Moderator Remus3

Greetings Remus3. Ready for that impromptu interview? First Question: What is your forum handle and how did you chose the name?
Hello, my name here is Remus3, it originally came from when I played Empire Earth way back in 2005. Kind of came about from being in a clan based on roman military structure and really just stayed with me for almost everything. However, when I first joined mmowned in 2007, it was just Remus. The only reason for Remus3 is that the tag of Remus was taken everywhere else by other folks, so I kept it inline with everything else for easier crossgaming recognition among online friends.

I was always curious about the name. I heard rumors that Remus, Remus1 and Remus2 were killed? :P
There was never remus1 or remus2 -- kind of just a random number thrown in and rolls off the tongue in a sense.-- Remus is a banned account of mine when I made the change as a new person on the site.

What is your real name and what do you do for a living?
My real name is Nicolas. As for work, I am a supervisor for a security company. It pays the bills and offers a buttload of freetime while at "work" monitoring the employees, to do other things like development/planning/reading/gaming, etc.

What is your history with OwnedCore and what is your involvement within the community.
A long story that shows how awesome the headstaff are before I came to where I am now. I'll save some of your time by truncating it. I joined in November 2007 after leeching for months prior to registering. My interests back then were in WoW emulation and generally being an asshat. After some time of trying my newbie methods of gaining rep via how-to's and random other things dealing with Ascent, I donated and gained access to the shoutbawx. Eventually I got into a heated argument with KuRIoS and wouldn't back down to take a re-evaluation... he perma banned me.

About 6 months later or so I messaged him back and apologized for my rude behavior. I didn't make a new account due to what little rep I had gained and I wanted it back. He gave me a second chance, and I was on the path of helping anyone and everyone via the bawx or their threads instead of trying to find some gimmicky way to gain rep. It was slow but not the goal, I eventually became a contributor and was always in the shoutbawx.

Sadly I looked a bit too far off field into darker areas on mmowned, and became proficient in social engineering and datamining the web for WoW accounts. When we, myself apart of a discussion with the staff, came to a decision to remove scamming from MMOwned back in 2009. I regretted what ill will came about my deeds along with it. After that, I ended up helping people avoid being scammed and solving their issues with a few other peoples help. Around this time I reached Elite.

If I recall it was sometime in early 2010 I was asked if I wanted to help on the staff, and did so. Helper->Mod eventually. (i'd have to look at the banned accounts information) During this time some of my more real life Illegal "contributions" came to light and I changed to this new account and a changed name for a short period. Late 2010 I became a supermod and I still help wherever I can to this day.

If anything, the other staff and KuRIoS helped me to be who I am today. I was 15 when I first joined, and could have gotten a lot worse of wear without their assistance in keeping my ass alive. A big thank you to KuRIoS no matter what, and I've cherished knowing him and the other staff- new or old. My focuses did change from emulation to botting and making money, all the while a primary motivator was to help others.

Most people know you in the OwnedCore community but what is one thing they don’t know about you that you would like them to know?
I may not be knowledgeable in everything- but I can come to a grasp of stuff quickly. I'm not some mean person nor someone to never contact. I enjoy conversations where they come up. I enjoy long walks on dark nights and generally can be approached for mostly anything.

What have you learnt from OwnedCore over the years? What is something that you will never forget?
Never judge a book by its cover or first few chapters. Mainly concerning people, I've learned to be extremely patient and trying to understand all points of view- it's worked well in real life workwise. Just don't be a negative repeat offender to solidify anyone viewpoint. Being lazy isn't good. If you say you will do something... do it and give people a second chance.

Something I will never forget is KuRIoS' helped me when I was stranded 2000 miles from home during a transitional period in my life during college. I'm sure he doesn't realize the gravity of what that meant to me.

OwnedCore has such a diverse mix of cultures and nationalities where in the world are you from and where do you live?
'MERICA! -- Texas. yes yes.. only steers n q... z.z; I love texas. I do believe I am 1 of 3(?) total staff members based in America.

What do you think about the diversity of Ownedcore? Why do you think Ownedcore is so popular to this day?
I remember when a vast majority of people were EU and a healthy helping of NA but no where near. It's pretty balanced out over the years contribution wise as for MMOwned/OwnedCore popularity and no ****s given but with camaraderie on the website. It attracted a lot of great people who knew how to use/abuse the games. Nowadays you'll see its more of a financial aspect- botting being the biggest hitter. There weren't that many other websites like it around. Exploration and emulation are still prevalent today as well, just nothing like their prime.

Is there anything you want people to use more on Ownedcore? What would you like to see changed at OwnedCore?
Use more, not sure. I can only use my viewpoint as staff anymore concerning how the forums flow. I see some hate spreading but we usually squash it where we can and they don't repeat. Its business as usual for us without outside suggestions. Mind you that doesn't depict that we don't look into new avenues of better community stuff or ideas just on the lower level of interactions- post by post. Changed? hmm, nothing really. It's an unique community, if you get involved in the shoutbawx you become family.

What was your first game and when did you start gaming, what was your hook?
Hitman, Blood Money - was my first really hooked game. Played it with my father while mother disapproved of the killing when I was ~10 years old. Civ2 - Civ5 -- again with my father- we played 100's of hours on our memory cards to talk about different strategies and pro's/con's

Empire Earth for clan based interactions- that eventually led to WoW. then OC ;; since then I still stick to strategy games, initially SC/SC2- then League of Legends. ;; picking WoW back up to play with my business partner in PvP when WoD hits. So overall it was my fathers involvement, then internet friends that keep me loving games.

Gaming is a way of life on OwnedCore; are you a big MMO person or a more strategic relaxed player. What type of gamer are you and why?
Strategy easily. I may bot, I may hack. but I still come back to strategy games no matter what, because it's pressure on another person.. the equal resolve to win. -- my father is why :P , not to best him... but to match his wits and overcome and be better for it. hence my signature ive kept for years.

If you were not a gamer what would you see yourself doing, what are your other passions?
I couldn't see myself as a nongamer. as unopen-minded as it is, I grew up on games, I live and breath them daily. I used to do traditional/digital art for competitions, I've done 3d models for production and games, and now its software engineering in earnest for a lifetime career.

Where can we find your besides OwnedCore?
League of Legends, Minecraft, -- I have the capabilities to stream easily, I just don't. either I randomly have a bot open or I'm watching torrented movies... twitch would shut me down real quick. I'm one of the less socially networked on active staff. Things come and go- so I don't prescribe. I'll either be playing games, trying to code, or GTA5 on PS3 killing random online people in bloodsport.

Who would you like to see interviewed? Who are you going to call out?
KuRIoS if he can be bothered

Who is your closest friend and foe on Ownedcore?
Friend, I tend to keep to myself in that aspect. everyone is accessible at whim; don't really have someone solid in that aspect as it doesn't matter to me like that. (sorry ): might even come off as douchey I know) Ditto for foe. there are people I can have a dislike towards but within a weeks time I'll just not care and move on. They automatically get their second chance without needing to mark em. A third unannounced category is people I can trust to have my back or not afraid to state their mind and that's everyone on the staff, which I'm happy to know.

Mac vs PC: The Final Battle. What do you use; Mac or PC?
Personally PC 100%. I've had my time with Mac, even for "creative professional stuff" and i didn't enjoy it. I'm much more comfortable with windows because I've spent years (versus weeks) on it and learning from it. Everyone will be inclined to their habitual use. (INB4 Maclone: unix)

Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview or information you would like people to know?
BEHAVE DAMNIT- ... J.k. -- everyone is doing great, just be a bit more open-minded in everything you do. DON'T HATE.. APPRECIATE!

    Interview 4: Moderator Aes

Good morning cupcake did you sleep well? Thanks for taking the time to take this impromptu interview. What is your forum handle and how did you chose the name?
Oh god, hate this question, never one I can answer. I first registered under the username 'bmxerandre' in 2007 which was my like, 14 year old self. I then changed my name in I think it was 2009 to Aestysu. And no, I do not know what it means, where it comes from or anything. I used a random name generator from some game I cant remember the name of :P I’m now only known as 'Aes".

Why did you make the change to Aes?
I changed to Aes because I use Aestysu for literally everything, even things I don’t care about or whatever. Its just, I don’t want ownedcore associated with whatever else I register with whatever that may be. I want my ownedcore name to be an ownedcore name :P

Why the obsession with cats as your profile and avatars?
Hahahaha, they are just the best animals, so smart, so clean. Would take them over any animal any day. My cat is currently sitting on my desk as I answer these questions: https://i.imgur.com/Zo7T0xR.jpg

What is your real name and what do you do for a living?
My real name is Andre, last name is not Agassi. I currently work as a manager of the dairy department at a supermarket as well as selling things online, for now its just WoW related products.

What is your history with OwnedCore and what is your involvement within the community.
I started off as the typical leecher who never registered for a while. I was heavily into emu servers and model editing for my early years. I mainly hung around those sections as i never really was into exploiting WoW so I did what I could to help people here and there. After a while I started doing graphics, signatures for people, website requests, whatever was needed. But I eventually didn't have the time to continue any of that so dropped it all together, and I now suck at it. But for now, I hardly post my own 'content' I watch the newly created threads and try help where I can. Currently I just sell things out of the trade section, but moderator wise I take care of the WoW section and the contest/giveaway section. While also spreading out and helping wherever I can. Most of my time is spent in the Shoutbox though.

Most people know you in the OwnedCore community but what is one thing they don’t know about you that you would like them to know?
Well, there is not much to know really :P I'm 21 year old, if I’m not at work, I'm at home in the shoutbox. I'm not sure if this is 'known' or not, but I usually drain my life by watching TV shows or Movies. I ALWAYS have something on and I’m always on the hunt for more. Huge fanatic for that stuff.

What have you learnt from OwnedCore over the years? What is something that you will never forget?
Being on ownedcore for such a long time, and especially though my child hood, it will be hard to forget many things. The people here, the crazy members you get from time to time, and the friendships you make. Whenever I have an issue, I always ask in the shoutbox, its like my own personal mentor. ownedcore has really made me 'grow' in the past couple of years. Don't just think its a gaming website, it can be a whole lot more depending how you look at things.

OwnedCore has such a diverse mix of cultures and nationalities where in the world are you from and where do you live?
I was born and raised in Australia, lived here my whole life. My parents are both Greek. My Greek is pretty good but not sure if I can class it as my second language, I can understand it 100% but speaking fluently is another thing.

What do you think about the diversity of Ownedcore? Why do you think Ownedcore is so popular to this day?
Well, ownedcore has been around for a LONG time, and as the site grows, the expectations grow with it. All the site leaders play games themselves, if its not WoW then its something else, so we all know what its like to be a gamer and we (think) we know what the people want. We take on all suggestions and do anything to make the community happy. We are currently talking with a few of our 'top traders' to see what we can do with the trade section to make it more active and better for them and anyone else who uses it, so whoever you are reading this, if you have any ideas, let me know.

Is there anything you want people to use more on Ownedcore? What would you like to see changed at OwnedCore?
The rules book. Nothing worse than people knowing what they do is wrong yet do it anyway, or not even read them at all. But I honestly don’t know what I want changed, I think its fine how it is.

What was your first game and when did you start gaming, what was your hook?
That is a tough one. I started off VERY early on my nintendo64 like most of my generation. Moving onto PS1, PS2, etc. I was never an XBOX fan though, only ever owned a playstation or gameboy. WoW has been a game I’ve played since 2005 and I still play it to this day, just can't seem to shake it.

Gaming is a way of life on OwnedCore; are you a big MMO person or a more strategic relaxed player. What type of gamer are you and why?
I don’t play any games beside WoW. I used to play FPS games, they are always fun but they get old very fast. Not much to say about this, not sure about the 'why' either. Its just fun, so much to do, transmog, gold making, raiding, achievement whoring, whatever it may be.

If you were not a gamer what would you see yourself doing, what are your other passions?
That's a hard one to answer, I still don’t know what to do with my life. I don’t really have any hobbies/interests/skills. I used to be a club promoter for a few years but eventually I just couldn't be bothered going out every weekend and waking up feeling like shit.

Where can we find your besides OwnedCore?
There's not many places I would be, maybe facebook is the next step down :P The only tabs I have open when I’m on the computer is Facebook and ownedcore. I OCCASIONALLY watch streams but internet over here in Australia is pretty bad so its tough to watch in the quality we need before it starts to buffer.

Who would you like to see interviewed? Who are you going to call out?
KuRIoS! He has been telling other staff members to take the interview, so why not himself! Hehe.

Who is your closest friend and foe on Ownedcore?
I’m close with a lot of members, I’m very casual and laid back. I don’t have any enemy's on the site, maybe my competition in the trade section, but even then, we still help each other out.

Mac vs PC: The Final Battle. What do you use; Mac or PC?
I use a PC mainly, though Mac is really nice to just take around whenever I want, its small, fast and does everything I need. But ultimately if there was a world without one of them. Id take a PC any day. https://i.imgur.com/INzDIok.jpg

Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview or information you would like people to know?
Not really, just like to thank everyone on the site for helping me whenever I have an issue, and to just keep contributing!
