Please note that this is not my guide, i am sharing it though because i found it interesting and im sure other people will too. It just shows the different speeds you can go at and the fastest you can go in the game. Feel free to flame
The spurs DO NOT add 6% as many people have stated.
Those people failed math class.
Mithril Spurs add 4%.
If you can convert numbers to percents, there's a hope you will understand the following:Adding only Mithril Spurs as a speed enhancement, Titan MonkeySpeed reports my mounted speed as 166.4%. (Which does not mean the spurs added 6.4% or about 6%. That's stupid. Why would Blizzard bother with the .4%? Follow along.)
- Your base run speed is 1 or 100%.
- Your mount adds a 60% increase or multiplies your speed by 160% (which is 1.6).
- 1 * 1.6 = 1.6 or 160%. So your mounted speed is 160% of your run speed.
(Thottbot confirms this: Thottbot World of Warcraft: Mithril Spurs)
- 166.4% is 1.664 and my previous mounted speed was 160% or 1.6.
- To calculate my speed % increase: 1.664/1.6 = (exactly) 1.04 or 104%. Subtract the 100% to get the increase amount and you have 4%.
Extra Credit:
Suppose you used the Carrot on a Stick instead of Mithril Spurs.
The carrot states (hmm, duh) that it will give you a 3% speed increase.
(Thottbot confirms this as well: Thottbot World of Warcraft: Mount Speed)What if we add the Spurs and the Carrot?
- 3% increase means multiply by 103% or 1.03.
- My run speed times my mount increase times my carrot increase is:
- 1 * 1.6 * 1.03 = 1.648 or 164.8% faster than my run speed.
According to Thottbot, the Riding Skill Enchant for Gloves increases your mounted speed by 2%: Thottbot World of Warcraft: Minor Mount Speed
- 1 * 1.6 * 1.04 * 1.03 = 1.71392 or 171.392%
And what if we add the Spurs, the Carrot, and the enchant?Still not fast enough to catch an epic mount (100% increase).
- 1 * 1.6 * 1.04 * 1.03 * 1.02 = 1.7481984 or 174.81984%
UPDATE: The Winged Mounts come in two types, just like the original mounts: regular and swift. The regular Winged Mount is as fast as the regular Mount BOTH on the ground and in the air. The Swift Winged Mount is as fast as the Epic Mount on the ground, but gives a 280% speed increase (multiply by 3. in the air.
- The increase means it's added to the original 100%, so 100% + 100% = 200% or 2.
- Take our original run speed (100% or 1) and multiply by our epic mount modifier (2):
- 1 * 2 = 2 or 200%

The Riding Crop gives you a NON-STACKING speed increase of 10% (multiply by 1.1). Since the chant, carrot, and spurs only combine to give an increase of:the Riding Crop is faster and either frees up 2 slots in your inventory as djl1080 stated below, or allows you to now place a different chant on your gloves and boots if you're too lazy to carry a 2nd pair. (What are you guys looking at me like that for?)
- 1.04 * 1.03 * 1.02 = 1.092624 (9.2624% increase)
Thirdly, the Animal Handler talent is a Hunter talent, that for mounted purposes, is just like the Pursuit of Justice talent for Paladins. (Yes, the POJ talent also increases running speed. The AH talent only increases mounted speed, but also gives the hunter's pet a 2% or 4% increase to hit chance.)

(Note: Pursuit of Justice is a Paladin talent, and Animal Handler is a Hunter talent. They do not stack with the other modifiers.)
Since the only aspect of the flying mounts that is numerically different from the grounded mounts is the flying speed of the Swift Winged Mount (and besides, that's the one we all really care about), that is the aspect I refer to below.

So a Paladin/Hunter with Pursuit of Justice/Animal Handler 1 (compared to someone with the same mount speed) is at least as fast as somone with any single modifier, but any 2 modifiers are better than PoJ/AH 1.
A Paladin/Hunter with PoJ/AH 2 (compared to someone with the same mount speed) is faster than someone with any two modifiers, but all 3 modifiers are better than PoJ/AH 2.
I've ignored the speed modifiers for running. If you know any additional Mount speed modifiers, please reply below.
