What's intervene?
The crab pet owns this ability which works just like a normal intervene, usable on any friendly targets including yourself.
What is it useful for?
- Completely nullifying the chance for a rogue to open on you
- Reducing damage if timed right
- Avoiding Blinds, disarms, etc.
How do I use it on myself?
First, a very handy macro that I use myself:
Code:
/petstay
/cast [target=player] intervene
With this macro the pet will stand in one spot for you to gain range and when you do have enough range, it will intervene you. However, do not spam the bind, or the pet will intervene you but stay in it's spot outranging you. Simply press it once when you know you're in range, following with a pet follow command.
How do I intervene blinds?
You must be able to predict the blind first, if you know it's comming, position your pet in a good spot and intervene the target the rogue is going to blind and the pet will eat the blind.
I must warn you, this is a skill-move and is very tricky to pull off, though when in arena you know that blind is coming on your partner right after the poly/sap, so wait until it's almost over and intervene your teammate and pet stay.
Code:
/cast [target=YOURTEAMMATESNAME] intervene
/petstay
I've won so many mage/rogue fights simply by intervening the blind when my priest has already popped trinket.
How do I intervene rogue openers?
The simplest of tasks. Simply intervene yourself and you're immune to openers for the duration of intervene, so you can pop track hidden and go play hide and seek with the rogue without the worries of being opened on. When the duration ends, throw a flare under your feet and re-intervene yourself when the cooldown is ready.
How does it work vs rogue openers?
Simple, the pet will eat every single ability the rogue can use in stealth. The only (slight) problem is sap. Even though the pet eats the sap, it doesn't cancel the intervene duration (you're unsappable), however you can get sapped if you outrange your pet, so if your pet gets sapped, dont run away from it and continue with flare/re-intervene as usual.
Is it any good vs warriors?
Sure, whats the first thing a warrior does to a hunter when he charges? Hamstring of course! If you intervene that, you can just disengage and run full speed and look at the expression on the warrior's face. It's also good when the warrior wants to disarm you. You notice him going defensive stance, so you intervene yourself and then stop kiting. 99.9% of warriors going low in arena and using defensive stance, still trying to get on you are mashing their disarm button like crazy.
How about dks?
sure! Keep your pet a few meters away and when you see the dk's pet leaping towards you, intervene that petstun!
Ret paladins?
Not much here, though you can intervene judgements which are pretty decent damage.
Does it work vs hunters?
And very well indeed. Intervene a massive amount of burst by intervening a chimera shot (both hits will hit the pet), or nullify his healing debuff by intervening an aimed shot. Problem with them spam cc'ing your partner? Watch their scatter cooldown and intervene your teammate when the cooldown is almost over and if the hunter is in los and close to your team mate.
What about casters?
Sadly, it only works on physical skills.
Are there any downsides using a Crab instead of Spider in arena?
One really huge one. Your Pin can be kicked/pummeled/counterspelled/etc. This is really bad since you must root one before attempting a scatter/trap on the other one, since he can simply eat traps standing on top. But people kick/pummel pins only at 2,3k+ rating, so it shouldn't be a problem if you're not that high rated.
Have fun intervening.
Oh and please don't repost this on arenajunkies.
