What do you expect is the best thing to farm for, as in what is going to fetch me the most profit.

Perhaps the Netherweb spider silk because it's already extremely rare to find on the AH for low prices, and it's needed for making Netherweave Bags.

My information is based on the past history of expansion releases, what people want most when they create new characters, common sense, and my blogroll. Also, tailors won't be able to make bags nearly as quickly as people will want them made -- lol, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but not everyone's a tailor!

Basically, look at it this way: 2 new races = more people leveling up, more new chars = more new professions. All this adds up to more of a demand for bags (used by funded new alts) and trade goods (for leveling the professions). Of course I'm sure there are other odds-n-ends that are needed, but I'm not going into any further detail beyond what I've already stated because that would lead out of a supported arrangement of tips and into pure speculation.

Firstly and most importantly, stock up on low level trade goods! Anything that can level professions from levels 1-425 will be worth a ton when Cataclysm hits because there will be many profession changes and a new race on each faction, so many people will be leveling or re-leveling professions.

Idd, there will be many changes we don't know anything about yet. Therefore it is not wise to stock up yet until you get more information.
In the past Blizzard has made many changes on leveling professions so some materials were not needed anymore, have fun having a stockpile of goods that wont be used anymore
At this moment we can only speculate on what is gonna happen, till the blue posts give more info.

There is a very, very low possibility that Blizzard will make every single lowbie material worthless in Cataclysm. They may change the materials into some newer version for Cata, but I highly doubt they'll make them completely unused.

I decided to contribute a little, and compiled a list including most of the raw materials needed for levelling every profession fully. Inscription excluded completely, meaning that you should probably buy a lot of extra herbs to be covered. Dyes are also excluded. It should be quite accurate otherwise. Feel free to add it to your original post!

Ehi but u dont need netherweb spider silk for doing the bags u need netherweave cloth -> Netherweave Bag - Item - World of Warcraft

-Alchemy and Engineering will likely be popular choices for new Goblins -RACIAL

- Bank Alt Goblins - Due to their racial - so stock up on the gear

- Rare Engineering patterns could also be worth stocking up on -Gnomeregan may be rebuilt, so the Discombobulator Ray will be no more

- people will need to regem due to sta changes

- Northern spices

- Crusader, Lifestealing, Flaming enchants for Boa gear

- Lvling kits- Alchemy/Engineering

- Briarthorn - bottleneck for alchemy =(

- alchemist 1 day CD in cata - make more than one alchemist

- transmutes so far

- I have seen some jc gems but the list is bit to big untill i find out how to do a spoiler =)
