1.1 Introduction
Since the beginning people have competed against each other to have better valuables than their colleagues. This is called greed, there are two ways to get money in WoW and in real life
A. Work for it the old fashioned way or
B. Scam
Not just does #2 sound easier but it is also just one word instead of 8 words, the only problem with this is you have to know
1.2 What is scamming?
Here are two definitions from http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/scam
A: Fraudulent deal, business plan intended to defraud
B: (verb) to defraud or embezzle
So scamming is like a smarter way of stealing that has you actually talk to your victim or at least indirectly meet them, but to understand scamming we must know
1.2.1: Scamming history
Scamming probably began at the beginning of ancient civilization when people traded bars of pure gold for bars of gold and silver hybrid, soon scamming became a part of mainstream society.
The Nineteenth-Twentieth Century
With a common currency, the scammers could create counterfeit currency and pass it on others. Also, mail made scamming easier and easier by offering worthless Contest offers and one way tickets to foreign countries.
The Twenty-First Century: The Bridge to the Future
With the popularity of the computers scams evolved and were recreated. Soon E-mails with worthless degrees and “checks” from Bill Gates seemed to be widespread in E-mail culture. Viruses and other things were also implanted within websites and hacking became popular among even average people. Though there is some resistance from “good people,” scamming is unseen by the government.
1.2.2 Benefits of Scamming
Here are some of the Benefits of scamming.
A. You could get rich
B. You could get epics
C. You could be the first level 70 on a new server with a flying mount
D. You could control trade on your realm
E. You could control an entire guild
F. Et Al, etc. et cetra yadda, yadda lets get to the next part, where I talk about
1.2.3 European Servers
On Blizzards Euro servers you cannot get banned from scamming, so it is free to scam until you choke on a donut, the only problem is Monolinguists (people who speak one language) may have problems with other languages, so here is language software I used to get on the Euro servers
http://www.rosettastone.com/en/indiv...nline-demo?a=b
If you do not buy this software, you are doomed to the U.S. servers, or the server in which people speak your language. Now we need to learn.
1.3 Requirements for a scam
Here are the requirements:
-A brain
-A World of Warcraft account
-An understanding of getting banned (U.S. server requirement only)
-Some macro and computer skills
1.4 Conclusion
As you have learned, scamming is an important thing that affects both society as a whole and the members of it, you have also learned the requirements of scamming and even how to get to a magical land where scamming is part of the game. Now its time to learn how to go about
2.0.0 Judging a scam
2.1 Direct/Online Scams
Note: This means you have to be online
2.1.1 Backspace Scam
How it works: right when your about to trade an item for something else
Subtle: Yes, if you’re cheating someone out of like 1-9 gold, no if you’re trying to get a super rare epic that’s sells for like 900g.
Effective: Nearly 99% of the time (when lag is high they might find out), but you do need to logout right after you do it obviously.
Duration: Time to advertise want for item(s): 5 minutes-4 hours
Time to backspace: 1 minute to get there if in city, 30 seconds to trade.
2.1.2 AH Scam 1
What you Do: Set the price for an item in XX gold instead of XX silver
Subtle: Yes, and virtually unbannable, some idiots need to look at the AH twice
Effective: 10% of the time, but makes fortunes when it works
Duration: From 1 minute to 24 hours, AH is unpredictable
2.1.3 AH Scam 2
What to Do: Advertise for an item (that you don’t have) in the AH a little higher than the item actually is, then buy the item from the AH when you already have the money
Subtle: 100%
Effectiveness: Once in a Blue moon, people have learned of this and check out prices lower on the AH
Duration: 15 Minutes- 6 hours
2.1.4 Trade Channel Scam
What to do: You advertise a trade channel auction and you tell the highest bidder to check their mail in an hour, then you send a blacksmiths hammer in a present.
Subtle: 65% subtle
Effectiveness: Works 1/3 of the time
Duration: 15 minutes-50 minutes
2.2 Indirect (Mailing) scams
Note: You do not need to be on for these scams to work, and they usually have about a 3-8 minute duration solely based on typing skills.
2.2.1 Holiday Scam
What to Do: You imitate a holiday character in a letter and Cod a worthless item pretending it is useful:
Subtle: 40% subtle
Effectiveness: It works when you sound convincing, and when they don’t send it back
2.2.2 Website Scam
What to do: You pretend to be a gold seller site giving the player an epic for 2-7g, when in reality all you are giving them a worthless piece of dust or something
Subtle: Good for people who like gold sites
Effectiveness: Works for people down on their luck and dishonest people.
2.2.3 Guild Scam 1
You send a letter to a member of the guild on a character with bank in their name pretending to be accepting donations.
Subtle: Works better when the guild has had a raid because of all the items the “bank” gets, so study the website, also study the playing patterns of the real banks and try to work around it.
Effectiveness: Works for dysfunctional raiding guilds and other organized raiders.
2.2.4 Guild Scam 2
You send a letter to a guild member saying they have won a guild contest and have to pay a small fine.
Subtle: Works alongside the “Bank” scam, doing these at the same time works well.
Effectiveness: Works sometimes, not most effective way to get gold though.
