    [Anti-AFK] Trinket

    Hello,

While I was browsing the Customer Service forums on the main World of Warcraft, I came across this post (WoW Forums -> Blizzard, how can we deal with this griefer?).

It looks like you can get a trinket from a quest in Winterspring called the Crystal of Zin Malor (Crystal of Zin-Malor - Thottbot: World of Warcraft).

It seems people are using this to AFK in Alterac Valley.

I seached for Crystal of Zin Malor and nothing came back. Just thought I'd share this with all of you, although you may already know about it.

You can use Titan bar to auto release I'm sure there are others out there as well.

It drains mana, not health, but i dont think it would work for a rogue or warrior.

Please explain exploits when you post them.

This trinket deals damage continually unless a certain requirement is fulfilled. Obviously in a battleground, this can not be done. As a result, upon equipping the trinket, the player will begin to die. In combination with an auto-clicker and/or auto-release mod, they will release to the spirit healer. 30 seconds later the spirit healer will ressurect them, and they will begin to die to the trinket again.

The exploit here, is that because the trinket deals the damage on equip, instead of on use, it will not stop after death. These continual deaths will detract from their team's reinforcements, causing them to lose quickly. In addition to the reinforcement loss, these continuous deaths clear all inactivity reports.

In summary, through the combination of
Crystal of Zin-Malor, and an auto-release technique; the player will be immune to inactivity, and games will be lost faster.

so this shouldn't be bannable? Fixable yes, but not bannable because we are just equipping a trinket?

I'm not sure, it looks like a blue posted in the forum about it saying to contact an in-game GM.

Edit - and thank you Shadowalkerdk for the excellent explanation.

You will not be banned for simply equipping the trinket, but using it for non-participation is actionable.

its amazing how EVERY single post in an "AFK" thread is from someone that apperently has never stepped inside a battleground.

taking damage of any sort, or dying, or rezzing, DO NOT remove the idle or inactive debuffs, NOR do they prevent you from going AFK after 5 min.

We don't need flame wars, we need someone confirming or denying this with proof.

I am not positive on the mechanics of this, but I know it works, as I have seen it done. One of two things could be happening here, either:

    • The trinket causes you to deal damage to yourself, which is considered a PvP action, OR
    • Your death removes any currently active AFK reports on you, preventing you from ever receiving enough reports to idle.

Somebody else will have to provide screenshots, as this is alliance-only.

sad to see ppl expounding on proof, screenshot, etc... this is not rocket science

go sit in a cave in AV, get the debuff. now get killed by anything, receive damage, die, rez, whatever - even if its 10 of the opposing faction beating on you - NOTHING happens to the debuff. its still there when you die, when you are in GY, when you rez again.

Go as a warlock and hellfire yourself all you want - DOESNT remove debuff.

the ONLY thing that removes it is actively pressing a key that does damage to a pvp target OR heals something engaged in actual pvp (ie not killing wolves)

now why do you need posted proofs when anyone actually playing WOW is 30 sec away from testing this for themselves in AV.
