I've found out if you kill Lord Ahune within ~5 seconds of him resurfacing, he continues to summon the Hailstone adds, he goes about his cycle of one minute above ground 30~ seconds below ground until you reset the instance, spawning as many Hailstone mobs as he can in that time : )

It's not a very good picture, but you can see Ahune is dead, loot is up and a Hailstone mob is spawning.
