Anyone knowledgeable with DirectPlay8? menu

    Anyone knowledgeable with DirectPlay8?

    I've got a small project that I'm working on to re-create an old MMO. Been digging around in wireshark and finding out that the game client used DirectPlay8 to connect to a server. It's an older game from 2008 a casino MMO to be exact.

    Not sure where to start from here. I can see the client sends out a DPNET packet with a UDP packet that follows with it. From what I've come to assume is that the game client handled 90% of the stuff used online, thinking the server host was just a lobby type deal interconnecting every other client together in a giant casino. But I'm to also assume the server side had a database of every players stats.

    I've also got a decompiled exe of the game client but not sure if Im allowed to post outside links though. Also this game server no longer exists was shutdown 3 years ago.

    Anyone knowledgeable with DirectPlay8?

    I'm willing to compensate someone who can help me build a directplay8 server and get the game client functioning again.

    I'm not very familiar with DirectPlay but i'll do some digging and see what the protocol looks like.

    The networking and db management shouldn't be an issue but developing systems to handle the server and client packets would be the biggest challenge.

    Thank you so much man, I've been on several forums with no response. Just trying to get this thing off the ground. I've never taken on a task like this. If need be I've got a fully zipped copy of the game client upwards of 9gbs on mega.nz

    After days of fooling around with the game client and trying to get it to talk, I've found out that upnp had to be disabled on my router to get it going. Before that it never made any outbound connections according to wireshark.

    I've also came across some old directplay8 sdk samples that I've been able to compile but they would need tweaking I guess to get somewhere with the game client.

    The game exe was never launched directly. It had a launcher type that was used for their single player games and also to update the game and launch the online login process before launching the actual game client.
