So you are more likely to be caught and banned using a bot as oppose to using one of the simple model edits to change skin etc.?

Yes only certain model changes like campfire to solid object like dark portal is more or less easy to get banned for, but simple models like skin changes are client side so they are only viewable by the user and as long as they aren't used for exploits it's more or less very safe.

Modifying the game in any way not through addons is considered bannable, maybe not in the eyes of a GM or an employee, but in the eyes of a warden. If the server detects some sort of change in the model, then it has a possibility to ban you. This doesn't happen often, in fact I only know of a few cases, but it's bannable unfortunately..

It's quite funny, I posted the picture showing that model editing isn't bannable a few years back and now I can post a picture showing it IS bannable.

    Funny, right?

VERY slim. I've been using simple textures edits for almost the whole entire time I've played WoW (going on 6 years now) and never once been caught/approached by a GM. Needless to say, beware of what you edit, and be conscious of the bannable list that Glitchy posted.

It's not LEGAL to do it, but the chances of them finding out about a simple edit like that is like 1%. I've been using model edits like that (mount swapping, character swapping and gear swapping) permanently for 6 years now and I've NEVER had any problem whatsoever.

Will you get banned? Yes. Will you get caught? Chances are no, so use at your own risk.

What are the chances of warden or anything picking up on me doing a race swap? I would SO hate for my account to be banned, but I really wana look like an orc <3

My only concern is that Blizzard have a 0 tolerance policy. There must be so many people that do this stuff that they can't and WON'T check an individual case to see if they were exploiting, they'll just look at their logs and see "this guy's edited the game files, let's ban him".

OK, a lot of people have been saying Warden only detects third party programs outside of WoW.
It actually checks the WoW.exe process itself and game files, including any model edits. So... does this not increase the chance of being banned by like a bazillion?

It detects things such as the removal/movement/resizing/shaping of doors, pvp flags, etc. It does not regularly scan things such as reskins or small model edits. A good rule to stick with is that if it's not giving you a gameplay advantage, don't sweat it.

But that goes back to my other point:
If blizzard gets so many of these, surely they don't have the time to bother to check whether it gives an advantage (i.e. whether its a race swap or a pvp flag to dinasour). That's what's worrying me.

I might be reassured if I saw some statistics for people banned for such a thing.
Also, I wouldn't be bothered if it were only a warning or a day-3 day ban, because then I could just remove it and play normally, but it's the perma-bans I'm worried about.
