*Where is that ItemCache file?
Can't find the item cache file now. Last time I was swapping DisplayIDs, it was before Cata. I know they move the cache files around, where is it this time? My poking around hasn't been fruitful.
Thanks!

Modding for the joy of it!
I'm going to naturally assume it's in the Cache folder, but I get a feeling you already checked that.

yeah, all the other cache files seem to be there, around 9 of them, but no itemcache. Hmmmm. *rubs chin* I want to get rid of this horrible heirloom gear, it's nasty lookin'.

C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Cache\
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Cache\ADB\enUS
replace XXXXX with the username you play wow on usually. This is for windows 7 and vista and is a hidden storage place for it. I've noticed that it is sometimes is used and other times isn't. If the folder isn't there, try C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\, there isn't much in the VirtualStore most of the time.

Thanks for your detailed answer! I was excited when I saw it, but it seems that the file does not exist there for me. I've been playing wow actively lately, and upgraded to cata about a month ago.
I did a search of my entire machine, and nowhere is there a file called itemcache.wdb. I searched for all .wdb files, and it wasn't on the list. I made sure to search everywhere, a system-wide deal. There is no file on my box called "itemcache" at all.
how can this be? Any help is appreciated. Is there something I need to do to get it back? I shudder to think that I might have to re-install entirely, ..... but will that really help?
I'm on a Windows Vista Home Premium system, and my wow directory is saved in public/games/worldofwarcraft. I did try checking in public/public documents/blizz/wow/cache, but that folder's nearly empty.
Halp!

Wow folder/Cache/WDB/enGB/itemtextcache.wdb for me.
Maybe it's called itemtextcache instead of itemcache
Also, since it's a .wdb file, just try to search for it in your search bar. It will lists all the files that got that extension.

itemtextcache is indeed there, but it's only a 1 KB file, which opens up to one line of data in the Hex Editor, so I ruled that one out. Also have done the searching. Nothing in the search results checks out.

Honestly not sure, but perhaps WoW\Cache\ADB\enGB\item.adb is something. It's just 1kb big though so probably not.

according to my wowhead client, it is the file "Item-sparse.adb" in C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Cache\ADB\enUS , or all the files in the ADB folder. I opened the sparse file in textpad, and at the bottom it has the names of a bunch of items. So if this cache file isn't enough for you, probably doesn't exist as you want it to.

The Item Model Swapper still works for me. (it uses the cache, doesn't it?) Didn't work the first time, but I'm guessing that was due to the cache file not existing yet or something.
