Warning : Test realm and model edit files

Before downloading the test realm client patch, i would advise to delete EVERYTHING you have of modeledit material in your Wow folder, as theese will seriously mess up the installation of the new patch, and will lead to an incredibly ardous waste of time. I forgot to delete my model edits before i tried to install the teast realm client, wich resulted in a series of errors messages, corrupted files, and so on that were Wow related, and forced me to reinstall everything from patch 2.1 and forward ( blizz's repair unit luckily does all the deleting for you, atleast it did for me ). I presume this isnt anything new, but im merely trying to remind ppl to do this, since i wasted a hellufalot of time because i didnt myself.
Hope this will be usefull for some people


PS: The warning here is based solely on my own experience with the matter, since i don't know so much about how this system actually works and the technical reason for my troubles. Would be great if people that are more experienced with the nature of these issues then i am would comment constructively on this to clarify this and perhaps propose alternative methods for bypassing these problems.
PSPS: This knowledge alternatively also applies to the installation of the authentic 2.3 patch, though this is just presumed knowledge by myself, and should merely be regarded as measures of precaution

I bet theres gonna be thousands and thousands of people who are gonna be totally "WTHOMGLOLGKCIKIMO" and quit wow in frustration when patch 2.3 comes out, because they forgot about the ol' naked char model edit they installed way back when, and that they forgot that they even had... Blizzard really should make this "Model edit nerf" aspect of 2.3 more public, they can't deny that model edit really is an outstreched phenomenon, and that the people involved in the "less illegal" aspects of it and that don't know what 2.3 actually does to model editing, don't deserve being punished in the way that theyre gonna be punished by this. If global frustration could be measured, then the day of the patch 2.3 release is definetely gonna be visible on the charts

( "The ol' naked char model edit" actually caused quite a bit of trouble for me too, since i had it for so long that i actually forgot that chars usually wear underwear, and so i forgot to delete it when clearing out the model edits from my WoW folder, mistaking it for a genuine patch. This eventually messed up my client patches AGAIN, and i had to delete them and reinstall them AGAIN, wich was a real pain in the phucking A33, virtually drove me crazy. So that's rite kids, delete ALL ur stuff... ALL of it.. before you even think about installing the test client or before patch 2.3 )

PS : I dont know why or how, but somehow the test client actually includes ur model edited data in itself if you dont delete it before you download it, so if ur planning on installing it, then the "Ah whadahek il juss instul da client whail im dilitin mah stuf" trail of thought is a NONO. Delete all you got before touching the stuff.

I diidnt have a problem, i have over 20 itemcache files containing different Armor swaps, and like 10 race conversions for live realms.

I was able to log on WoW PTR just fine.

What errors do you get when updating? The only thing I've heard of is WoW rolling your edits into the actual patch files.

Pookie, cache edits will not be effected come 2.3. Race conversions are iffy, but forsure, things like adt and dbc will be greatly effected

So you mean every model edit will be of no use after the patch? What a shame.. imo the nude patch added a realistic aspect to the game, and (No matter who says what), in an adult guild makes a good Role Playing aspect. I hope someone makes a new one after the patch.. if that is even possible.

There is a new fix, it's been stated time and time again that it will NOT be released on mmowned per the creators wishes.

I believe all you have to do is to integrate ur model edits into the genuine Wow Mpq archives, a little harder but still not impossible ( this information was found in the replies done by demonkunga and others in the original "Model edits nerfed in 2.3 thread ( name of thread as i write it is not correct, but it does exist )). And concerning the technical aspects of these errors, i cannot comment on them, since, like i said, this warning is based purely on personal experience with the matter, and should be regarded just as a friendly advice.

One thing i failed to mention, is that u can model edit all u want after installing the test client, just not before ( just to make that clear to the people who didn't deduce that from the info given already )

Actualy, if u add models in genuine wow mpq files won't protect u from the file check... but with an updated MEF it could be possible to add them. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
