Off the top of my head I can't think of many reasons it would do this. My first thought is that something else is running on the same ports the sandbox is trying to run on - like trinity/mangos?
I'd try doing what Nyarly suggested below especially the running in command prompt as it should log everything to a window that doesn't close. Another thing you might be able to check is event viewer; if its an actual crash it may have put something in there.
If I get time I'll add some form of file system logging to help debug this.

Yeah, thanks to Nyarly's suggestion I screen capped what the problem was and added it to my previous reply on the last page.

Good news everyone, we've got it going, sorry taking up spaces on the board trying to resolve it. However, to keep it from being spammed with just my hep requests, this was posted waaaaay back in 2013 but I've been thinking on this for days now and this person just happened to bring up what I was wondering and wanted to follow up on it.

There's also v0.6, which I've had no luck in finding, which bridged the gap between the Dec. 2003 alpha leak and the early public betas. There's patch notes available, so I know such a version and client existed, but whether or not it's still on the internet remains to be seen.
I must say thanks to everyone that's collaborating these patches - in the past, I have explored the WotLK F&F files using 3.3.5, but it's certainly nice to see the files being shared in a user-friendly sort of way.
Was there ever any headway on this, I myself would love to see and get into the client from the very first 2001 preview for the game. I bet the differences and changes in there would be amazing and interesting to see.

What I know :
This link has a good list of builds : Patches/0.x - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft
Most notably, these :
- 0.5.0 / 0.5.1 / 0.5.2 aren't documented anywhere else on the web. I'm not even sure they are real.
- 0.3.4 is the one akspa is talking about, the E3 build. I've spent countless hours searching on google, web caches, internet archives, ... to no success. And I know i'm not the only one who tried everything he could to get his hands on it. At this point, the only hope of finding this build again is from an old employee that decides to leak it, kinda like what happened for warcraft adventure not so long ago.
If you're reading this and have the client in your possession, know that i'm definitely willing to buy it.
- 0.6.0 can be found though. I think there has been a general confusion between 0.5.5 and 0.6.0 (both are named 0.5.5 on the main screen). But you can find links for the 0.6.0 build on this very thread.
Additional notes :
- 0.7.2 / 0.7.3 / 0.7.5 did exist, but only on mac it seems
- 0.10.1 added zul farak, and we don't have this build ^^ could be a mistake on the website though, as per Talk:Patch 0.10.1 - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft

Ah such a shame, maybe some day we'll eventually get access to 0.3.4 and all the goodies that await inside it. In the mean time there's no shortage of other builds here i'm interested in looking into.

It's important to note that the build shown on the login screen of the E3 build was "version 3.4", just as the leaked alpha was "version 5.3". I'm looking to see if I have the 0.10.1 patch in my archives or not. I'll update if I find it.

Actually, the one im referring to that akspa mentioned dates back 2 years, 2001 before even the E3 2003 build, quoted here.

What was probably at the earliest the 1st ever real build of WoW to exist or the 2nd depending on what they could have done before the 2001 reveal build of the game. So probably like before they even started to use number versions as akspa stated or like version 0.1.0 or maybe even 0.0.0 Video linked below of the build myself and akspa is referring to in the quote.

Personally, I'd consider the gameplay from 2001 as being designated a Warcraft III build. Even by the time the 0.5.3 version was created, they were still using the Warcraft III icon for the program. When WoW was announced, the paperwork had only JUST gone through for the trademarks, and it was likely too early to brand or version the builds of the 'game' that they showed off.
I've tried to maintain the BetaArchive wiki articles for WoW, adding whatever info I can find to the articles. For instance: World of Warcraft:Original:3.4.2953 - BetaArchive Wiki

This error was killing me yesterday, but i finally found a way to pass that and log in to the sandbox. The problem is the sandbox (wich says is for 3.0.1.8303) is actually for 3.0.1.8334? . So , after you install the client version 3.0.1.8303 you go here World of Warcraft Patch Archive and download WoW-3.0.1.8303-to-3.0.1.8334-enGB-patch.exe (or the us version, depending on the client version you have) and patch it. After that you just do what is written in the Readme of the sanbox and log in.

I made a patch that fixes this error, basically it replaces a JZ instruction (Jump if Zero, opcode 74) with JMP (Jump, opcode EB) where the assertion that fails is made.
The patch utility can be downloaded from this link:
Dropbox - WoW-WOTLK-8303-assertion-fix.zip
Just extract the archive, copy the Wow.exe file in the newly extracted folder and run Patch-WOTLK-8303-assertion-failure.bat .
After this, you can copy the patched Wow.exe to your game folder.
This patch is for 3.0.1-8303 ENUS version, haven't tested the ENGB one. If the ENGB Wow.exe is identical with the ENUS, the patch will apply on that version as well.
If you don't want to download/execute the patch you can open the 3.0.1-8303 ENUS Wow.exe file in a hexeditor and change "74" to "EB" at 0x0013A45D.

Neither Reidor nor MAN-Biker were Blizzard's employees. The game was shared by many people before coming to them.
