World of Warcraft Model Editing Basics
World of Warcraft model editing
If you've lurked around for awhile, you've probably heard about World of Warcraft model editing, but how is World of Warcraft model editing useful to your average WoW player?
While the most basic World of Warcraft model editing examples involve players changing the models of their characters or weapons, advanced World of Warcraft model editing could include cosmetic edits of existing World of Warcraft zones, or functional edits. A good example of this sort of World of Warcraft model editing would be an edited map of Warsong Gulch that allowed a player to easily move across the battlefield with the flag while avoiiding detection.
World of Warcraft model editing shows up client side for the player, but say that a player makes a bridge to easily access a zone. Other players will not see this bridge, and will instead see the player who has used the model edit as floating through midair, when there is actually a bridge model across the ocean. For this reason, World of Warcraft model editing is very useful for exploration of World of Warcraft live servers.
Many areas are impossible to visit conventionally on live servers, but World of Warcraft model editing enables players to easily visit forgotten areas like the Emerald Dream or the designer isles.
Blizzard has worked diligently to make World of Warcraft model editing a difficult process. Fortunately, there are many ways to circumvent the protection Blizzard has put in place, which means World of Warcraft model editing is still a viable venture in Cataclysm. World of Warcraft model editing tips and tricks can be found on OwnedCore's World of Warcraft model editing forums. There, new users can learn how to make their own model edits or download pre-existing model edits and conversions to morph their character to the model of their favorite non-playable race, or change their low-level, white quality weapons into something as epic as the Twin Blades of Azzinoth.

Q: I'm going to assume that editing is a ban-able offence but at what point is model editing detectable?

Making WoW machinima is one of the easiest ways to start making machinima. Most WoW machinima makers use three main tools.

Maybe I'm just confused but is there a guide or link in this? Model editing is cool but I'm looking for square 1 to start with, aka the "basics"

Hello
World of Warcraft model editing offers players the ability to modify in-game elements like character models, weapons, and maps, enhancing their experience and exploration. While these changes are visible only to the player, they can grant access to areas usually out of reach, such as the Emerald Dream. Despite Blizzard’s efforts to restrict these edits, resources like OwnedCore still provide tools and tutorials for making custom adjustments to the game. It's a fun way to personalize gameplay or improve movement in battlegrounds.
