What’s the fastest leveling class?

1. Warlock – Warlocks are the gods of leveling. They melt through mobs +1-2 above their level with ease and have almost zero downtime. They provide a consistent xp/hr ratio and are capable of running just about any profile by simply changing your pull sequence. Demo specced at 50 is the way to go until you are geared with at least around 600 spell damage. Even then, demo spec will provide more consistent xp/hr if you are leveling on mobs that are higher level than you.

2. Hunters – Hunters are a very close second as far as pure speed is concerned. Their pet does more damage on average than a warlock’s pet, allowing for slightly faster killing. However you have to feed your pet which takes time. And to keep your DPS on par with a warlock, you will need to drink every 5-9 mobs. This slows them down slightly, but they are still an extremely quick class. Hunter’s also do very well with mobs a level or two above them.

3. Mages – Mages are the fastest killing class in the game, hands down. It is generally a good idea to glide on mobs a level or two below you to reduce resists. A fire specced mage will be able to drop about 50% of the mobs it fights in 2-3 hits, or just a few seconds. Unfortunately, all that power comes at a price: down time. Mages have more downtime than any other class. Set up for pure speed, a mage will have to drink every 3-4 fights and that takes time. Luckily, they spawn their own water, however it does cause them to drop to the #3 spot. You could spec frost to lessen your downtime but in doing so you also increase your killing time.

What’s the best gold farming class?

1. Mage – You are not gear dependent at all. Mages, like other classes discussed here, can go with all red armor and still be pulling down a decent gold/hr ratio. They also are the fastest killers. If you are gold farming on mobs that are a level or two below you, no other class will be able to drop them as fast as you can. More mobs killed = more mobs looted = more gold. You also make your own food/water so you are literally self sufficient.

2. Warlock – Warlocks nudge in at #2 solely because they don’t kill quite as fast as mage. Warlocks kill super fast themselves though, and the difference between a mage/warlock for gold farming is negligible. Warlocks can also go for hours on red gear with absolutely no problems.

3. Druid – Druids are not often seen in the top 3 list for anything. However, feral druids kill almost as fast as a rogue, but are no where near as gear dependent. Druids can also go just fine with all red gear, though your ratio will drop a bit. They have the ability to heal themselves so food is not an issue and they never drink, so neither is water. Hunter’s do not get the #3 spot simply because of arrows. Arrows cost gold.

In the end, everything is negligible. The total time played for a Paladin (slowest class) and a Warlock (fastest class) is only going to work out to a few hours. You’ll be much more successful picking a class that you actually enjoy playing than one that levels faster.

actually i still find rogues the best 70 gold making ckasses in the game + me making over 2 k a day stealth running heroic chests is an easy living

But there's one thing... in 70 good geared, mage takes one by one, locks take 5 by time, without drinking!
