World of Warcraft on Linux - The easiest way!

    Works with latest version (2.1.3)!

I followed some guides where you have to install with the CD's using wine and shit
None of the guides I tried worked good for me so I found an easier way to do it:

Worked good for me on ubuntu, I will try on debian later.

    1. First, you need to dual boot with windows or have an external harddrive with world of warcraft installed. You can just plug it to another computer with windows and install it and copy it to the external harddrive.

    2. Make sure you have WoW Installed on your windows partition or your external harddrive

    3. Download Wine:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install wine
    4. Mount your windows partition(should be easy if you have ubuntu, just go to Places -> Computer and click on your windows partition somewhere there and it will be mounted). Or just plug in your external harddrive.

    5. Find your World of Warcraft folder in you windows partition or external harddrive and copy it to your linux partition, for example: /home/username/World of Warcraft

    6.
Add these lines to your Config.wtf file located in World of Warcraft/WTF/Config.wtf:
    Code:
    SET gxApi "OpenGL"
    SET ffxGlow "0"

    7.
Now start World of Warcraft by typing this in the terminal:
    Code:
    wine "/home/username/World of Warcraft/WoW.exe"
Or create a launcher on the dekstop with that command

    8. Congratulations, your wow should now work. If you have low FPS try these steps:

    9. Go to System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers Manager and select your GFX card and click on enable, restart you computer.

    10. If you have better FPS now but still low then type regedit in the terminal and follow these steps:

    1. Find this key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\
    2. Highlight the wine folder in the left hand pane by clicking left on it. The icon should change to an open folder
    3. Click right on the wine folder and select [NEW] then [KEY]
    4. Replace the text New Key #1 with OpenGL
    5. Click right in the right hand pane and select [NEW] then [String Value]
    6. Replace New Value #1 with DisabledExtensions (Notice it's case sensitive!)
    7. Then double click anywhere on the line, a dialog box will open.
    8. In the value field type GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object

Note: If you are unable to rename the newly created key "New Key #1" to "OpenGL" then expand the left hand pane of the regedit window using the vertical divider bar. You should now be able to change it. A known bug in Wine is causing this unwanted behavior.

    11.
If you have problems with the sound then add these lines to your Config.wtf:
    Code:
    SET SoundOutputSystem "1"
    SET SoundBufferSize "150"
Note: If you have problems changing the resolution ingame, change it manually in the config.wtf file or try this:
    1. Open config.wtf
    2. Replace SET gxApi "opengl" with SET gxApi "d3d", login and change the resolution in the video options and exit game and change back to SET gxApi "opengl"
    See my config.wtf file here

I will update this thread if I find more tweaks or a new WoW patch is out and something needs to be edited.

Please do not post this guide on another forum/website without giving credits or posting a link to this thread!

If you got any problems or questions, post them in this thread.

I have an ATI card too and it works good for me. You can copy my config.wtf and try that.
