Gnomish Vs. Goblin Engineering

Hi! First post on mmowned here, and I thought I would make a guide to start off. I searched "Engineering" and "Gnomish or Goblin" and didn't see anything. Special thanks to Wowhead for providing links and information. But anyways, here goes!

Gnomish Or Goblin Engineering

You've reached a big point in your engineering career and have been given the opportunity to specialize into gnomish or goblin technology. But the question is, which one to choose?

Quick Reminders

Your choice won't impact your engineering skill that much, but the extra items that each type of engineer gets to create can definately make a person want to go a certain path. Many engineer items have a chance of failure, but the backfire effects make that failure fun!

Note: These are not all of the items that one can make, just ones I have picked.

The Gnomes

Small creatures with big brains who love to tinker. Their inventions don't have a primary focus, but they sure are fun.

Gnomish engineers have a variety of fun devices that you can use. Some of which include:

World Enlarger: Gnomes have managed to enlarge the whole world!

Gnomish Poultryizer: Cluck, cluck!

Gnomish Death Ray: Zap! This baby can deal devastating amounts of damage to lower level mobs or players.

Night Invulnerabiity Belt: Absolutely amazing item for those in the 50-59 bracket, if you're twinking too.

Gnomish Mind Control Cap: Priest in a hat.

Gnomish X-Ray Specs: You all saw this one coming lol. Silly Gnomes.

The Goblins

Small green creatures that are also genious engineers. But they all share a passion for watching stuff explode.

Goblin items are focused around, you guessed it, explosions!

Goblin Rocket Boots: Get a 60% speed increase for 20 seconds! The boots have a chance to explode, but if they do, they'll refund some of the mats used to create them.


Goblin Rocket Launcher: It's a flippin rocket!

The Big One: Boom

The Bigger One: Boom, Boom

Goblin Rocket Helmet: Knock an enemy silly and stun em!

Goblin Dragon Gun: Breath fire on your foes.

Now that you’ve seen some of the nifty items each type of engineer can make, hopefully you’ll be able to make a better decision about which to specialize in! I myself am a Gnomish engineer, just because I like the bigger variety.

Remember too, if you choose the wrong one for yourself, you can always just switch!


Engineering in Cataclysm

New engineering items for each specialization will definately be available in cataclysm. For example, the Loot a' Rang, which allows you to loot mobs from a distance. New "gem" type engineering items have also been revealed that one can put into their armor. Maybe even a portable AH will appear!
