Hi Welcome to My Guide. This is 100% written by me (besides quotations of course). I have collected all the data available on the internet about achievements and have put it in my own words. I will cite the pages at the very end of the guide. Enjoy! :yuck:
edit: The rest of this guide will be posted in the elite WoW guides ~2 days. Enjoy Part 1 of it here ^_^

I. What Are Achievements?
Achievements are similar to an Xbox 360's Achievements, besides the fact that you can access all the possible achievements to gain either by pressing "Y" in-game or by typing /achievements. Once the achievement window is opened it will take you to the Summary Page, where you can view all the achievements you have already done, purposely or on accident. To the left are all the unique categories, which all have subcategories and "meta" achievements. A Meta Achievement is a type of achievement where it fits all of the subcategories and cannot be placed anywhere else, sort of like the "General" section of a forum. Here is a direct quote from Blizzard's Website:
World of Warcraft's achievements come in several varieties. Some simply require specific actions to unlock, such as getting a haircut or defeating a member of each race in your opposing faction in PvP. Others involve a progress bar and require you to do something several times -- such as give out 10 hugs. Some achievements are progressive; for example, once you complete an achievement to collect 10 vanity pets, you might next be asked to collect 25. Finally, meta achievements unlock when you complete other achievements -- unlocking all World Exploration achievements (see below) unlocks a World Explorer meta achievement. Some achievements, including those that involve quests, honorable kills, items currently in your possession, skills (including professions), exploration, and reputations, will be applied to your character retroactively.
II. What can I Gain from Achievements?
There are quite a few things you can earn from achievements: many that will amaze your friends and possibly your server; and some that are widely known and not rare, in other words, everybody has it. Usually the very rare and hard to do achievements will obviously give you great rewards, such as a Red Proto-Drakefrom the Glory of the Hero achievement, or the title "Twilight Vanquisher" by doing the Twilight Zone achievement. Those are just a few samples of what you can earn by doing achieves. But not every achievement has a reward. The gain of the achievement alone can be a reward, such as the first level 80 on a server, or the first raid clear on a server. Other achievements are just there for fun, such as gaining 10,000 gold from looting monsters (LAWL impossible).
III. General Achievements
These achievements tend toward the whimsical, including getting a shave and haircut, obtaining a certain number of tabards and vanity pets, falling from a great height, and more. These achievements tend to be self-explanatory, but I will try to go as in-depth as possible.
[Reach Level 10...20...30...]
Self-Explanatory. Every 10 levels you will get an achievement until you hit 80. No work required besides leveling.
[Master of Arms]
Raise four out of fourteen Weapon Skills to 400. Get a specific type of weapon and keep hitting monsters until your skill goes up to 400.
- It's best to equip weapons that have very low DPS and fast speeds, because your chance of skilling up is per attack, not per kill. White items you can purchase from vendors in the starting areas, or grey vendor trash items are good options.
- You can skill up on mobs far below your own level, to prevent the damage that you would take, but you will get fewer hits on them before they fall down.
Here are all the weapon skills:
Axes, Bows, Crossbows, Daggers, Guns, Maces, Polearms, Staves, Swords, Two-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Swords, Two-Handed Maces, Unarmed, Wands
[Did Somebody Order a Knuckle Sandwich?]
Raise your Unarmed Skill to 400.
Weapon speed for unarmed is 2.00, but you can speed this up by using a Fist weapon instead. Right-Handed Brass Knuckles, sold in Darnassus, Ironforge, Orgimmar and Shatthrath, are probably your best bet since they cause the least amount of damage, so you can get more punches in. You can skill up on mobs far below your own level, to prevent the damage that you would take, but you will get fewer punches on them before they fall down.
[Safe Deposit]
Buy 7 Additional Bank Slots. Get gold, buy slots, get achievement. The total amount of gold you need to buy 7 is 101 1
[Got My Mind On My Money 100-25000]
Loot a certain amount of gold. 100 > 1000 > 5000 > 10000 > 25000. You MUST loot the gold in order for it to count for this achievement. AOE grinding, Soloing instances is your best bet. Raiding also adds to it but it not very effective.
[Giddy Up]
Learn the Apprentice Riding skill. Available at level 30. Training costs about 40-80g.
[Fast and Furious]
Learn the Journeyman Riding Skill. Available at level 60. Training costs about 600-1000g. Requires Apprentice Riding Skill.
[Into the Wild Blue Yonder]
Learn the Expert Riding skill. Available at Level 70, only obtainable in BC. Training costs 1000g. Requires Journeyman Riding Skill.
[The Right Stuff]
Learn the Artisian Riding Skill. Available at Level 70, requires Expert Riding Skill. Training Costs 5000g.
[Going Down?]
Fall 65 Yards without dying. You have to end the fall on a hard surface (the surface that makes you die)
What mechanisms work?
- A paladin can use Divine Shield or Divine Protection to avoid the damage.
- It is possible to fall precisely 65 yards. Falling much further is fatal, however, except for rogues and druids, who have innate reduction of falling damage.
- As a mage, one can Ice block in mid-air and then continue.
- A paladin can use Divine Intervention on another player that has just jumped, sacrificing themselves but allowing the target to fall safely.
What doesn't work?
- You must hit the ground, so falling into water does not apply, and neither does, as a Druid, falling the requisite distance and then shape shifting into Flight Form.
- The variety of slow falling options, including Parachute Cloak, Slow Fall, and such.
- Priests' Power Word: Shield does not protect from falling damage, and neither does Dispersion.
[Shave and A Haircut]
Visit a Barber Shop and get a Haircut. Level 1 Haircuts are free. Price goes up as you level. Obtainable at select cities.
[Can I Keep Him?]
Obtain a Vanity Pet. Obtainable by buying any kind of pet on the AH or recieving a special pet from Blizzard. You HAVE to use/learn it to get the achievement.
[Plenty of Pets]
Collect 15 Vanity Pets.
[Plethora of Pets]
Collect 25 Vanity Pets.
[Shop Smart, Shop Pets...Smart]
Collect 50 Vanity Pets. This is possible without getting and TCG pets.
Visit: Warcraft Vanity Pets - An index of all small pets
for all the vanity pets obtainable in World of Warcraft.
[Lil' Game Hunter]
Collect 75 Vanity Pets. See above. This is only possible if you have Wrath of the Lich King and are above level 70. There are 175 total vanity pets, including the TCG pets.
[Represent]
Obtain a Tabard. You do not have to be in a Guild to do this.
[Ten Tabards]
Obtain 10 Unique Tabards. You cannot collect 10 of the same tabards. The most popular tabard gathering technique is by reputation. Won't go through it here; I'll explain in the reputation section.
[Twenty-Five Tabards]
Collect 25 Unique Tabards.

[Superior]
