Guide to the Lucky Fishing Hat!
I've been asked A LOT of questions about where and how I got my Lucky Fishing Hat, and have seen quite a good amount of questions regarding the fishing tourney, so I've decided to make a little guide for the 19 twink community.
---------------------------------------------------------
A few things about the STV Fishing Tourney
First off, I guess I'll explain a bit about the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. The main objective of the tourney is to get 40 Speckled Tastyfish and turn them in before anybody else. As a 19 twink, your objective is to get the Lucky Fishing Hat, and possibly Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots. To get these, you need to get rare fish, that are gathered from the pools of tastyfish that spawn along the coast of STV during the tourney.
Here's Blizzard's little story about it or whatever, if you feel like reading it: http://worldofwarcraft.com/info/events/fishing/
When: Every Sunday (2:00-4:00PM Server Time)
Where: Along the coast of Stranglethorn Vale
Rewards: Since this is a guide for 19 twinks, I'm just going to bother with the rare fish. To get the following rewards, you need to get ONE of the type of fish shown next to the item.
Keefer's Angelfish = Lucky Fishing Hat
Brownell's Blue Striped Racer = Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots
Dezian Queenfish = High Test Eternium Fishing Line
How: Keep reading
---------------
Step 1: Gathering supplies
* 150 Fishing Skill*
* Strong Fishing Pole (+5 Fishing)
* ~25 Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100 Fishing)**
If you're up to it, you can also go ahead and get +2 Fishing to a crappy pair of gloves. Now, if you're looking to get both the Lucky Fishing Hat and Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots, and already have one of two, I personally would recommend getting as much fishing as possible, because nobody likes thinking "what if.." when a fish gets away. Here's a list of gear that would give you the most fishing possible at 19:
* 150 Fishing Skill
* Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100 Fishing)
* Strong Fishing Pole (+5 Fishing)
* Lucky Fishing Hat (+5 Fishing)
* Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots (+5 Fishing)
* High Test Eternium Fishing Line (+5 Fishing)
* +2 Fishing to Gloves
This gives a total of 272 Fishing!
*You don't need 150 fishing to fish in STV, but I recommend it. 225 fishing is a respectable fishing skill to fish with. I haven't heard of any missed fish at 225, but regardless, I'd personally go with as high fishing as I could, to lessen the chance of a miss (which could be a rare fish!)
**Aquadynamic Fish Attractors are created by engineers (150 Engineering to make them, plans are bought from a trainer), the mats don't cost much, and are the best lures out there as far as I'm concerned. If you don't want to make the Aquadynamic Fish Attractors, Bright Baubles (+75 Fishing), would work just fine, too. Just be sure to bring enough lures to last you the entire tournament!

Step 2: FISH!
As a 19 twink, one can only assume that your objective is to get the Lucky Fishing Hat, and possibly the boots, too. Well, there are three ways of doing the fishing tourney at 19.
1. Up/Down the coast with a guard
2. Up/Down the coast without a guard
3. Yojamba Isle
1. Up/Down the coast with a guard. This is pretty straight forward, just have a high level escort you up and down the coast while you look for pools and fish. If you have an escort that you know won't let you die, this is by far the best way to go.
2. Up/Down the coast without a guard. Also pretty straight forward, except for that it's really dangerous, and I just wouldn't really recommend it, unless you're horde, in which case I suppose the Grom'Gol Base Camp could work. I've never had a horde twink, so I haven't had any person experience, but I've heard of a few successful stories of fishing right outside by the camp.
I don't have coordinates, since the patch kinda screwed it up... but my areas are on the east coastline. There are some ruins with some undead mobs.
-A little south of those ruins will be the most northern spot I go to.
-Going south you will pass by a giant level 55 I believe, and it is possible to run by without getting hit, if you stick close to the wall.
- Keep going south along the coast. There's only maybe two fishing spots where you could aggro near the bloodsail pirates, and even then it shouldn't kill you. Just don't fish there.
- There is a little island a off of the coast that can have a pool. This is generally as far as you're going to go before turning back around.
Along this path, guessing off of the top of my head there's probably ~11 fishing spots where you shouldn't aggro at all.
Tried my luck this past sunday, and met up with more horde and alliance than usual. And the fact that the pools stopped spawning about a half an hour too early Only got 48 Tastys. *sigh*
Edit - Forgot to mention, that if you do die, either by ganking or mobs, you're very close to the graveyard in comparison to almost any other fishing areas.
Fishing Map
3. Yojamba Isle. No guard? No problem. Not too many know of this island, and some that do know about it don't go because they think that the trolls there are aggressive. In fact, this is the island where the Zandalar Tribe resides. They're the guys you get faction with for doing Zul'Gurub, which are neutral, and to top it off, there are NO mobs at this island, so you don't need to worry about dying (unless of course you drown yourself). The only downside of this island is that there aren't too many pools that spawn. Once I get a little map of the area, I'll mark the spawn points that I know of. As I very rarely have an escort with me, I fish here whenever I'm looking to get the hat and/or boots.
---------------
Step 3: Enjoy your new items!
Once you get a rare fish, you must turn it in to the Fishbot 5000 located in Booty Bay. Hopefully you get your new hat and/or boots in your first week, but if not, just keep at it! Fishing is all about patience, so good luck all of you impatient people!
OH! Before I forget, after the tourney ends, you can turn in your Speckled Tastyfish to Jang the Fishing Apprentice (located next to the Fishbot and such in Booty Bay). It is a repeatable quest called Apprentice Angler, and for every 5 Speckled Tastyfish you turn in, you get 23 silver. It's not much, but at least your still getting some money for your attempt at the hat/boots. The fishing tournament NPCs despawn an hour after the tourney ends, so don't wait too long!
Also, I somehow forgot all about this, but the Speckled Tastyfish disappear from your bags within a few hours, so be sure to turn them in!
Unlike the Speckled Tastyfish, the rare fish will NOT disappear from your bags, but you will have to wait until the next fishing tournament to turn them in for your reward.

FAQ
* What is the max level of fishing a 19 twink can get up to? 272 Fishing, the gear is listed above in Step 1. Or 150 without any gear or special fishing poles, as the Expert Fishing - The Bass and You book requires level 20 to use.
* What time can you catch the rare fish? Sundays, 2-4PM Server Time
* Do tastyfish pools spawn on Yojamba Isle? Yes, I fish there quite often during the tourneys, there are 5-6 or so pools around the island, and 2-3 along the coast north of the island, I'll be including a little map of the area once I can get one.
* Does turning in fish give you exp? No, you do not get experience for turning in either tastyfish or any of the rare fish.
* Where can I fish to 150 fishing? I would recommend fishing in either Orgrimmar or Stormwind. You can level from 1-150 in both places quite easily, and if you really wanted to, you could fish between battlegrounds!
* What are my chances at getting <Rare Fish Here>?
Here's some stats I calculated from thottbot data if anyone is interested:
Keefer's Angelfish: 0.25% (1 in every 400 tastyfish)
Dezien Queenfish: 0.22% (1 in every 450 tastyfish)
Brownell's Blue Striped Racer : 0.18% (1 in every 550 tastyfish)
ANY rare fish: 0.65% (1 in every 150 tastyfish)

If I missed anything, or anybody would like anything added, just post here, and I'll be happy to throw it into this guide (with credits given, of course). I'm also going to be cleaning up the original post a bit later, looks a bit messy to me
Hope this helps!
