How to Downgrade the new WoTLK Patch so that you can play again!
As some of you know, a new WoTLK Patch just got released for Alpha that was beginning to cause some problems for private servers and sandboxes. Some people investigated this issue and found out that blizzard somehow changed the way the character list is loaded. I dont know if private server admins can find a way to fix this issue, but in the meantime, do this...
1. Check if you have the "Play WoW-WoTLK" Blizzard launcher still downloaded into your WoW Directory, if not, download it again and place it in your WoW Directory folder
2. Uninstall WoTLK Alpha (Trust me on this)
3. Install it again, instantly after you install it, WoTLK Will automatically start updating to the newest patch, abort the patching!
4. Go on a private server, not the original blizzard server if u are a tester, it might update if u logon to it.
5. Change ur realmlist to watever private server u play on.
6. Go to the WoTLK Alpha Directory folder. (Not WoW Directory)
7. Double-Click "WoW" That will instantly launch WoTLK Without patches.
8. Now play! **Note, Every time you play you will have to do steps 6 and 7 to start it, **NEVER USE THE LAUNCHER**
This is guarenteed to work, I tested it. Although you will be updated to the very first patch, and you would find yourself not be able to go on a few WoTLK Private servers. Try making a sandbox of your own and play on it, that is my best advice.
Good Luck!
**UPDATE**
It is confirmed that you can patch. But patch only ONCE. If you patch the second time on the launcher you will end up with the character situation again. If that happens, it seems obvious that you will have to start from step one again

Reason: You could update once on the patch
