Using your mouse: Efficiency in PvP

So, everyone knows that WoW has a lot to do with skill. Some people, however, have trouble catching on to things themselves, so I'm going to give some pointers on mouse usage.

Your mouse is probably your most important tool in WoW PvP. The most important use it has is turning the camera. Now you may be thinking "wait, but you can just do that with the arrow keys!" Yes, you can, but it's a bad idea. Here's why:

    - Slow turning
    - Inaccurate strafing
    - May give you an impulse to walk backwards in PvP (BAD!)

Those are only a few reasons, of course. What do you do when a sprinting rogue is running around you at 100,000 miles per hour? Are you going to hit your left/right arrow key until you can get a hit off? NO! That's dumb! You'll just die. Instead, hold your right mouse button down as much as possible when you PvP. This causes you to strafe left and right when pressing the arrow keys. If you just need to do a camera turn, move your mouse. You will move much quicker and will be able to see things behind you as you run.

This is particularly useful for hunters. When kiting, instead of backing up (which isn't really kiting to begin with), strafe at an angle that will have you running almost directly away from who you're shooting but keeps you at an angle where you can shoot. You will move away from them much faster and probably could kite anything to its death.

Another handy thing you can do with your mouse is "backjumping". When you think a rogue will gouge you, run towards him (not too close), jump, and spin your camera around 180 degrees so it looks like you just did a long jump backwards. This will avoid his gouge because to gouge you he must attack you from the front.

Okay, those were some examples of good things you can do with your mouse. There is a BAD thing you can do with your mouse, and that's clicking your spells. It distracts you from your surroundings, and it's just plain warrior...err *cough* I mean slow. Map all of your spells to keys (or at the very least, the ones you use the most) to keys you can easily access. This will open up your mouse for use in the things that I explained above. I will talk about keyboard usage in another article.

If anyone else has tips to add, please do. I realize I'm not an amazing writer but I try. Yes, this was written by ME, YAMAKI! Not copied. I hope I informed you well, and good luck!

Re: Using your mouse: Efficiency in PvP

nice little guide, i like your writing style. a lot like mine :P

    in addition:

i, having a mage as my main, constantly am holding right click with my
mouse hand. i've configured my hotkeys so that the most essential spells
for PvP are all within "1" through "7" so as to reach them with my left hand
    easiest.

also: TAB targeting is the way to go. this way you don't have to waste
time clicking on the character that you want to select - you can keep
running a specific direction and change your selection.

good guide, +rep. i wanna see more of this type of thing on MMOwned

/agree with matt who /agrees with Treyska.

I have Q,A,Z,C,D,E,R,X hotkeyed along with 1-5, Clicky non-combat stuff.

But Right Click held down is a must for PvP.

Gotta admit its hella funny to see n00b twink 19 rogues with over 1k worth of enchants/gear spent on them that you can run circles around and never get hit by because he didn't take the time to learn his character just twink it out, now I'll actually have a challange in pvp...at least against people on this site

I liked the guide, but ... don't everyone already know this stuff?
Are there really people so stupid that they move the camera with the arrow-keys and click spells with the mouse? I hope not, but I may be wrong

Haha, I'm sure there are at least a few people who don't know this. I'm in the 50-59 bracket now and I'm still seeing people do this almost every other BG.

I'm glad that you guys are enjoying my writing. I'll definitely contribute more stuff like this .

Yeah, jump shot is good. I also use that technique on my Hunter. Anyway, that was just an example. If I were writing a guide specifically on hunters, I would definitely put that in.

Actually that's called, being smart .

I use my A and D keys so little i should actually just replace them. I have most of my hotbar hotkeyed to around WASD, 1-5, E, F, G, Q. X has been replaced at some point, due to i removed its hotkey, but it has nothing on it, V, the most important of them all -blink-.

    It's sweet, works real well.

    ON mage it's just
    E - counterspell
    F - fireblast
    G - mount
Q - nothing i think, i have it set to my mount though on my warlock, then G is deathcoil
    V - blink

Most other keys i just click on, or totally get ignored. I honestly don't know why i still have spells like arcane missiles on my hotbar, seeing as i'm a full out frost mage, and haven't even baught the new arcane missiles given at whenver you get them between 60 and 64.

But dealing with the mouse, i'm ALWAYS holding a button down, be it left or right.
Right to move, then once i'm casting or doing something, left to check out the situation behind me and such. Also right and left because NOT doing something with your mouse buttons tends to suck...
