email detective?

hey i just found this email detective site that searches the email you type in and gives you info on the sender... could this be used for scamming?

Is that even legal? How would that work anyway? Will it trace the IP the user has been using when he signed up for the email? Makes no sense, glad im behind proxy almost 24/7.

i think they get the info from the email providers directly, looks like their name and adress and home number :P

I dont think we have to worry about it tbh, even if i know that the rules in the US is sometimes inhuman () it sounds to unrealstic to be true that a private person can trace you via your email. Even IF they trace your IP they have to talk to your internet provided to get your homeadress, and they will say NO unless your doing something that im sure is forbidded to talk about on this forum, involving the words "Child" and "Porn".

Sorry for bumping such an old thread but I have found it on this service and I wonder what solutions are used for such a purpose nowadays.
