Character Name Scam.

I was levelling an alt today and got a whisper "I love your character's name, would you be interested in selling it", I immediatly thought that I could scam this guy, and I managed too. This is how.

So he sent me the tell, and we negotiated ... He'd pay the amount we agreed on (1000g) I'd /delete char and let him know once I had ( we organised to be on vent so there would be no confusion). I let him know that it is possible someone could make a char between he time I /delete and he starts the new char, he was cool with it.

Thats it, I had him ... So we were chatting away and I logged onto my other account, and created a new char with teh same name (hadnt deleted the old one yet) but didnt hit create.

He gave me the money on my main, I logged and then told him to get ready to change his chars name (he was doing it via payed name change). Once he was ready, I deleted the character, and instantly swapped to the other account, and created a new char with the same, old name.

It took him a while to realise it didnt work, and by that time I was back on my main. In vent he was like wtf it didnt work, I just said that it probably needs to show up in Blizzard's logs before they allow it as a name. Then I logged and got off vent.

I assume this could be used in many ways, and I dont see why Blizz would ban for it, because with no proof that you made the char with the same name, they cannot do anything about it.

This hasnt been posted before, as far as I'm aware ... If it has post a link to the thread before you spam "ZOMFGREPOSTLOLWUT?!!?!?!?!". Also, it takes one person to tell me its a repost, not 10 of you.

Yeah... been playing since beta and never once had an offer or had a friend who told me they got an offer.

(Maybe me and my friends just have super lame names)

Well, when you either have a name that is uberkool, or is taken on pretty much every server, youd be surprised how many DBZ Diehard fans would pay to have a character named Goku, or Vegeta.

Nobody here is flaming you, clam down...

It's just not a scam you can repeat with ANY regularity. Your only hope would be to capture all the 'desired' names the day a new server opens, then sell them later when the server has matured.

true. although all the good names are taken on almost ALL servers.
