Controlling two characters from one computer? (Same account)

Well,

I have my level 60 pally, and my level 23 gnome. I want to get two of these BOP daggers for rogue. I had the idea that I could open WoW twice, log in twice, set my gnome to follow my pally, and viola. But everytime I try to log in for a second time (same account), I get DC'd. Is there any way around this, because I only have one account and can't afford another.

No you can not, you must have two different accounts if you would like to play with two different chars at the same time.

You can't play two chars off the same acct at the same time. You can however pull yourself through instances for example by grouping with some other char, who acts as a sort of anchor, and then alt-F4 to log into your other char and go back and forth that way. You can do what phreec suggested to accomplish this.
