Lots of Private Server Questions

Okay I'm technologically impaired so I need help with a load of questions!
1. How do you join a private server on a mac without having a Whuchamuacallit chip that lets you do PC stuff!?
2. If you DO know, I need a VERY simple guide: Tell me every last detail of what I need to do.
3. Can I still play on a private server and public servers whenever I want or is it one or the other?
4. What are the GM commands for changing your own model?
5. I wanna be a GM!!! Post your server here if you let anyone be GMs!
