[How-To] Chinese Hunter Pet / Warlock Minion / Mage Elemental names in US/EU

UPDATED FOR 6.0.3 - MUCH EASIER NOW WITH GAME CHANGES!

Step 1) Make sure you've closed WoW
Step 2) Go to your WoW installation folder.
Step 3) Open the WTF folder
Step 4) Open Config.wtf in Notepad or similar plain text editor.
Step 5) Locate the following lines

SET textLocale "xxXX"
SET installLocale "xxXX"

Be sure to take note of what these were to change them back.

Step 6) Replace "xxXX" with one of the following locales, depending on what you want:

Language	Locale
Chinese	zhCN
Russian	ruRU
Korean	koKR

Step 7) Open WoW either through WoW.exe or WoW-64.exe. Wait for it to load.
Hunter Steps:

Simply find a pet you want and Tame it. Your pet will now use Chinese characters for the mob name.




Warlock Steps:

Go to your Demon Trainer in a major city. They are near the Warlock Trainers.
Demon Trainer rename options in order

Imp / Fel Imp
Voidwalker / Voidlord 
Succubus / Shivarra
Felhunter / Observer
Felguard / Wrathguard (Demonology Only)

Once you select an option and pay a gold fee, you will get a new demon with the Chinese name.

Note: Grimoire of Supremacy require seperate renames, as they take on different names to regular demons.

Mage Steps:

Honestly: I have no idea for an existing Frost Mage.

If you've never played Frost, or if you are levelling a new Mage, simply be on the Taiwan client when you spec frost and summon your Water Elemental for the first time. It'll retain it's name on the US client through resummons, death, respeccing and everything I've tried.

This doesn't work if you have the battle.net launcher installed, when I try to click on the streaming TW clien, it just opens the battle.net launcher and directs me to WoW then does nothing, as I have already got it installed.

I suppose you could try uninstalling the Battle.net launcher, doing the stuff, and reinstalling once you're done.

edit: I'll test this tomorrow, or see if there's a way around it using B.net launcher and update the guide.

Create a shortcut to a WoW.exe file you want to use (either 32- or 64bit one, doesn't matter). Then click properties, and after the Target you see something like "C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Wow-64.exe" type -launch after it, so it will have "C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Wow-64.exe" -launch in the Target bracket (there's a space before -launch). I'm not entirely sure if it would work but it's worth a try.

I didn't test it that far, but from what I understand and I have seen, you can only keep the "fresh" name of the Hunter pet. IE - Wolf in Chinese. If you try to rename it, it gives an error for what I assume is invalid characters.

But I was able to get the Warlock/Hunter/Mage pets names to work in both Chinese and Russian on US.

Warlocks I think are the only ones that can be changed for 50 gold per change.

hmm, had it working and now when i try click realm it throws up some error, so i can see the realms but cant enter them :P

Probably something to do with the patch.

Set portal back to CN, update for patch, set back to EU and go again :P

To fix the problem, try one of two things:

Delete Config.wtf, open the Launcher, update for the new patch, repeat the steps and try again (Worked for me)

Alternatively, delete the folder and start over (also worked for me)

Does this require a fresh install? Because I can't get it to do anything except start the battle net launcher and log me in instantly. I want a spanish Spirit Beast, but I dread having to reinstall.
