Can you get banned for buying unmerged account and joining it to your main account?

Anyone know if account merging is bannable? I asked GM about buying merged accounts recently. Just said "was it ok to buy accounts from other sellers and merge it into my main account." They said that your main account has a chance of being banned forever if you do this. Anyone else get a ban yet? Or was it just some clueless GM I was talking to?

Just wanted to get some opinions from you guys / girls before I buy a few accounts. I didn't think they cared that much about this stuff as long as I wasn't using the new accounts for botting or hacking. But the GM went on to say that "my main account would have a possible chance of being banned permanently just because I would be breaking the rules by buying accounts from third party sellers."

From what I understand, the purchased account will be actioned but they won't ban the entire battle.net or other wow accounts attached to it.

You could always do each one under a separate battle net.

It's safer to keep the unmerged account in a separate Battle.net account.

Alright, thanks for the info. Main reason I wanted to buy any unmerged account was to merge it with my main account. Wouldn't be much of a benefit to me otherwise. Not sure if I will try it now. Keep the feedback coming though. If many of you have merged an account to yours and still got no ban, maybe I'll feel safer giving it a go. Find it strange that blizzard cares so much about that anyways.
