Tis question is gonna make me sound stupid, but I NEED it answered.

Ok, so I downloaded the cataclysm beta and all that junk you have to get with it to make it run... so I finally got it working.

Well, almost.

Now, when I Open up the cataclysm beta launcher, it gives me the error message:

"Launcher requires write permission to the C:\Program Files\Cataclysm Beta\ to successfully patch the game. Please enable write access to the directory using an administrator account."

My computer account has full admin access, and I checked the directory to make sure nothing was corrupted. I searched the problem on Teh Internetz but all I got was a bunch of nerd mumbojumbo. So I figured: "Why not ask on MMOwned.com? That's all their talking about at the moment anyway, so they would probably know how to help."

So please do help guys, the beta is over in like... a month?

If you're on Win7; put the cata stuff in your C:\Users\Public folder somewhere. Windows has file virtualization and security, that cause that issue. (Mostly in the Program Files dir)

Typical Cata Launcher Bug.

How to fix it :
Open up realmlist.wtf file and put in
set realmlist public-beta.logon.battle.net
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set realmlistbn ""
set portal public-beta
Start WoW.exe
Type in [email protected] (must have that battle.net)
and as the password something random.
Wait for it to download the mini-patch , click Restart , wait for it to patch and done.
After those steps it should work for ya.

Having a wild guess here, right-click the Launcher and run as Administrator.

Solved the problem for me, This is an official blue post i found, follow the instructions and it would be fine. But before doing that, try right clicking your wow files (all of them, the cata installer the beta file you create upon trying to install, and your WoW folder,) go to properties, and make sure its not "read-only".
Also, make sure you have the US version of wow, Im from england, and have EnGB, i copyed my wow folder, renamed all the enGB fiels to enUs and the installer then believed i had the US version, if you do that, make sure u rename the enUS version of wow to "World of Warcraft" and your en** to "retal" or something otherwhise the installer will still try to use your origional version.

Hope this solved the problems your having, and any other persons problems.

And, i know i have 1 post... not a reason not to trust me i was googling this problem myself, and this post came up, i found solutions, so decided to post them here for anyone else who googles it.
